Equifind are supporting an International Broker-Dealer in hiring for a Head of Finance based in New York City. The firm mainly focuses on US Equities. $200k base.
This role would suit someone with Financial Services experience under their belt and who is used to dealing with senior management. CPA ideally required and the position is 5 days office based in Mid-Town.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Finance to lead the financial management, operational oversight of our inter-broker dealer firm based in New York. This leader will oversee all financial operations—including budgeting, reporting, cost governance, and broker-dealer financial systems—while guiding the organization toward achieving formal FinOp accreditation.
The Head of Finance will report directly to a Director in London and manage a small but high-impact two-person team. This role requires both hands-on operational execution and high-level financial strategy, with close collaboration across technology, compliance, operations, and front-office functions.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Finance Leadership
- Develop and execute the firm’s financial strategy, including budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning.
- Own the P&L, cash flow management, and financial KPIs, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting to senior leadership.
- Lead financial risk assessment, scenario planning, and capital/operational efficiency initiatives.
- Provide strategic insight to support business growth, new product opportunities, and cost optimization.
Broker-Dealer Financial Operations
- Oversee financial aspects of brokerage operations, including reconciliations, settlement processes, and clearing workflows.
- Ensure compliance with SEC, FINRA, and other regulatory requirements related to financial reporting.
- Manage coordination with clearing partners, external auditors, and regulatory agencies.
- Implement processes that strengthen the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of operational finance outputs.
Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Lead and mentor a two-person finance team, setting clear objectives and professional development plans.
- Collaborate closely with the Heads of Operations, Technology, Compliance, and Executive Leadership.
- Drive financial transparency across the organization through reporting, education, and cross-functional training.
- Foster a culture of accountability, cost awareness, and operational excellence.
Accreditation & Continuous Improvement
- Implement and maintain internal processes, documentation, and governance required for certification.
- Continuously assess financial workflows and introduce improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications
Required
- 10 years of finance experience
- Strong background in broker-dealer processes, or financial services.
- Proven ability to lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting cycles.
- Familiarity with cost governance, cloud financial management, or technology finance.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in a lean, fast-moving environment.
Preferred
- Experience in an inter-dealer broker or trading environment.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements including SEC, FINRA, and broker-dealer accounting standards.
