Head of Capital Formation

EQUIAM

Head of Capital Formation

EQUIAM is an investment firm managing funds focused on growth and late-stage technology companies. We systematically screen thousands of private companies, rigorously underwrite, then make high-conviction investments (often) through direct secondary transactions. Our LP base is 250 family offices, UHNW investors, and institutional allocators.

We are looking for someone who is clever, relentless, and thrives when their role is evolving and growing.

The role

Since 2018, we have made investments in 90 portfolio companies and exited 40 via IPO, M&A, or secondary sale.

We are actively raising our next flagship fund, and this hire exists for one reason: to help us hit our target raise. This is a new senior seat reporting directly to the CEO. You will lead capital formation across the firm. That means sales and distribution first, but the seat deliberately spills into investor relations, conference strategy, and anything else that moves capital toward a close. We are a lean team. Nobody here works a narrow lane, and we would not know what to do with someone who wanted one.

Why this seat is interesting: Emerging managers offer upside and urgency but no proof. Mature managers offer proof but no upside. We are the rare firm offering both. We have been at this for 8 years, so you will sell with a real track record, established systems, hard-won lessons, and a well-capitalized firm behind you. But we are still early enough in our AUM curve that the person who helps us make the next leap will have been the person, not a name on a distribution team of forty.

What you will do

  • Own the raise for our next flagship fund: build the pipeline, work the pipeline, run meetings, manage diligence, close capital
  • Develop relationships across family offices, RIAs, institutions, and high-net-worth networks, including the ones you bring with you
  • Manage and deepen existing LP relationships: re-ups, reporting conversations, and the ongoing communication that turns a $1M LP into a $5M LP
  • Get on planes. Conferences, dinners, road trips, whatever it takes. The capital is not coming to us; we are going to it
  • Build and sharpen the firm's distribution machinery: CRM discipline, outreach campaigns, materials, follow-up systems
  • Work directly with the founding team on positioning, fund strategy, and messaging

What we are looking for

  • You have personally raised meaningful capital for private markets vehicles (e.g., venture capital, private equity, private credit, etc.) We care less about the asset class than about the raising
  • The profile we most want: you were integral to capital formation at a manager that scaled from roughly $150M to $1B in AUM. Many people in this industry argue that is the hardest leap an asset manager ever makes. We want someone who has made it.
  • You have a real network of allocators, and it is yours: people who take your call because they like you and trust you, not because of the logo you sat behind
  • Your relationships are live and warm, and you can activate them immediately. This role has a defined fundraise window, and your first commitments should come from people who already know you
  • You are relentless. You chase every possible dollar and extract every last drop of oil from the bedrock. A soft "no" is the start of the conversation
  • You are fun. This is a relationship business, and people give money to people they want to have dinner with
  • You are self-directed. There is no playbook to hand you and no manager checking your activity metrics. You set the pace, and the pace is fast
  • BA/BS required; strong written and verbal communication assumed
  • Familiarity with channel-friendly structures (interval funds, feeders) a plus as we expand access for the wealth channel

Compensation

  • Base salary: $175k - $200k
  • Uncapped variable compensation tied directly to assets raised, paid as a share of the management fees on capital you bring in
  • Equity grant in the firm
  • Carry participation, discretionary cash bonuses

Location

San Francisco (Hybrid). Expect significant travel. This job lives wherever the capital is.
