Controller
Equahire is partnering with a growing, multi-location services company to hire a Controller. This is a hands-on leadership seat with full ownership of the accounting function and direct partnership with senior leadership. The right person wants to build infrastructure, not just maintain it.
About the Role
You'll own the full accounting cycle, lead a small team across AP, AR, and payroll, and shape the financial systems and reporting as the company scales. High visibility, real influence, and a clear path to grow with the business.
Responsibilities
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process end to end
- Lead and develop a team of 2–3 across AP, AR, and payroll
- Direct accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll operations
- Ensure general ledger integrity, proper account classifications, and clean reconciliations
- Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules for leadership and ownership
- Partner with operations to drive financial accountability across the business
- Lead the P&L reporting process, analyze variances, and surface insights for leadership
- Build and refine accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting infrastructure
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors, tax advisors, and banking partners
Qualifications
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including team leadership
- Experience with Sage Intacct strongly preferred
- Deep working knowledge of GAAP, month-end close, and financial statement preparation
- Proven ability to lead a lean team while staying hands-on where it matters
- Process-driven mindset with a track record of building or improving accounting infrastructure
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA strongly preferred
- Multi-location, home services, or construction experience is a plus
