Position Summary
The EVS Lead provides day-to-day operational support and on-shift guidance to Environmental Services Technicians within a hospital setting. This position performs routine custodial and sanitation duties while serving as a working lead to ensure assigned areas are clean, safe, and maintained in accordance with infection control and healthcare standards.
The role assists with coordinating daily tasks, monitoring quality, and supporting staff to ensure patient care areas, clinical spaces, and common areas remain sanitary, stocked, and ready to support hospital operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform routine cleaning and disinfection of patient rooms, clinical areas, restrooms, offices, corridors, and common spaces
Lead and support EVS Technicians during assigned shifts
Assign or coordinate daily tasks and coverage based on operational needs
Ensure cleaning procedures and infection control standards are consistently followed
Monitor work quality and provide real-time guidance or correction as needed
Train and mentor new or existing staff on proper techniques, chemical use, equipment operation, and safety practices
Serve as the first point of contact for staff questions or immediate service requests
Respond promptly to spills, urgent cleaning needs, or special requests
Conduct routine inspections of assigned areas to ensure cleanliness and readiness
Reinforce PPE usage, bloodborne pathogen procedures, and safety compliance
Report staffing concerns, supply needs, maintenance issues, or safety hazards to the Supervisor or Manager
Assist with inventory and restocking of supplies and equipment
Maintain professional conduct when interacting with patients, visitors, and hospital staff
Support special projects, deep cleaning, and periodic floor care as assigned
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Previous environmental services or custodial experience required
Lead or team leadership experience required
Knowledge of hospital sanitation practices and infection control standards preferred
Ability to prioritize tasks and coordinate team activities
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Reliable attendance and professionalism required
Physical Requirements
Prolonged standing and walking
Frequent bending, lifting, stooping, and reaching
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
Ability to push and pull carts and equipment for extended periods
Work Environment
Work is performed primarily within a hospital or healthcare facility and may include exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, bodily fluids, regulated waste, and varying temperatures.
