Engineer-in-Training III – Drainage Engineering
Location: Mesa, AZ
Experience Level: 2 years' experience in drainage engineering preferred
Employment Type: Full-Time
Core Responsibilities
- Assist in performing hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) analyses, including 1D and 2D stormwater modeling using software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, FLO-2D, or similar.
- Support floodplain mapping, delineation, and regulatory compliance reviews.
- Utilize GIS for data analysis, mapping, and modeling support.
- Compile and interpret rainfall, topographic, and soil data for modeling and design.
- Support preparation of technical reports, exhibits, and drainage documentation.
- Assist with stormwater and drainage facility designs, such as channels, culverts, detention basins, storm drain systems, and erosion protection.
- Conduct research on local drainage design criteria, FEMA requirements, and jurisdictional standards.
- Participate in field investigations to evaluate drainage conditions, collect data, or support construction-phase services.
- Coordinate with project engineers and managers to support deliverables on schedule and within budget.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification in Arizona (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
- 2 years of relevant experience in drainage, stormwater, or hydrology/hydraulics engineering is preferred.
- Familiarity with H&H modeling software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, FLO-2D, SRH-2D, or similar.
- Basic proficiency with GIS (ArcGIS Pro or similar) for mapping and data analysis.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Desire to grow professionally and develop technical expertise in drainage engineering.
- Required to stand, walk, and sit.
- The position may require a visit to project sites occasionally.
- The position requires a normal range of hearing.
- The employee must be able to lift 40 lbs. occasionally.
- Requires prolonged sitting with 15% of the time spent bending and reaching.
- Must have sufficient manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
