  • Conduct technical research and analysis involving electric and magnetic fields associated with transmission and distribution systems, substations, and emerging electric power technologies.
  • Perform EMF calculations, modeling, measurements, data analysis, laboratory testing, equipment calibration, and interpretation of technical results.
  • Support characterization and assessment of EMF and RF emissions from conventional and emerging technologies, including HVAC and HVDC transmission systems, hybrid AC/DC systems, energy storage facilities, renewable generation resources, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and other advanced power system technologies.
  • Conduct technical literature reviews and evaluate industry research to support project objectives and identify emerging issues affecting electric utilities.
  • Assist in the development, validation, application, and training of EMF/RF assessment tools, methodologies, technical guidance documents, and research products.
  • Collaborate with utilities, universities, laboratories, consultants, and other research organizations to execute technical projects and advance industry knowledge.
  • Develop practical solutions to complex technical challenges through the application of engineering principles, sound technical judgment, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, conference papers, and other research deliverables.
  • Communicate technical findings and recommendations to utility members, industry stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and technical working groups.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in electric power engineering, electromagnetics, EMF engineering, high-voltage engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Working knowledge of electric transmission and distribution systems and their associated equipment and operating principles.
  • Experience applying engineering analysis and technical problem-solving methodologies to practical industry challenges.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to independently manage assigned technical activities and contribute effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.

  • Experience with EMF or RF modeling tools such as MATLAB, Python, COMSOL, ANSYS, NEC, or equivalent platforms.
  • Experience conducting electric-field and magnetic-field measurements and developing associated testing protocols.
  • Knowledge of transmission-line design concepts, including HVAC, HVDC, overhead and underground transmission systems, grounding, shielding, conductor configurations, and phase arrangements.
  • Familiarity with RF safety principles, occupational and public exposure standards, EMF exposure guidelines, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) considerations.
  • Understanding of potential interactions between EMF/RF sources and medical, communication, navigation, or other sensitive electronic systems.
  • Experience working with electric utilities, research institutions, government agencies, equipment manufacturers, or engineering consulting organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience authoring technical proposals, reports, conference papers, or industry presentations.
