What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utility/Prep Cook - Episcopal High School, Houston position at Episcopal High School?
The primary purpose of this position is to play a vital support role in food preparation, kitchen cleanliness, and daily operations, helping to ensure a safe and efficient environment for meal service to students and staff.
Essential Functions:
- Assist in basic food preparation tasks under the direction of the kitchen manager or lead cook
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas in accordance with food safety guidelines
- Wash dishes, trays, and kitchen equipment as needed
- Set up and break down workstations and service lines
- Receive, stock, and organize food and supplies
- Assist with loading and unloading food deliveries; must be able to lift at least 20 pounds
- Perform routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, and taking out trash
- Follow proper food handling and hygiene procedures
- Support other team members during busy meal prep and service times
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure smooth kitchen operations
Qualifications:
- High school or vocational school graduate or equivalent or working toward diploma.
- Good working knowledge of English.
- Prior experience in food service preferred.
- Good communication skills, ability to get along well with others, flexibility and patience.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Constant standing or walking.
- Requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Bends, reaches, lifts, carries, twists, pushes, pulls, and handles equipment when performing duties.
- Repetitive wrist/arm movements when serving.
- Manual and finger dexterity and motor coordination are necessary to serve food and handle dishes/trays with agility and speed.
- Able to reach and operate equipment and systems safely and effectively.
- Ability to work in warm to hot and humid conditions.
