What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dean of Academics - Episcopal High School, Houston position at Episcopal High School?
The Dean of Academics will provide leadership for the Academic Pillar, overseeing curriculum, instructional programs, and academic support systems.
Essential functions:
- Head of the Academic Pillar – oversee academics life including all issues relating to students, faculty, and parents, such as curriculum, course registration, Back-to-School Knight, Academic Honors Ceremonies, midyear and final exams, and Independent Study.
- Supervise Department Chairs, Registrar, and the Director of Mentoring and Instructional Support.
- Supervise the Director of Summer School and coordinate programming with other Pillar Heads.
- Partner with the Dean of Faculty for the recruitment, evaluation, and selection of teachers.
- Partner with the Dean of Students to work with the Grade Level Deans to respond to students’ and parents’ Academic concerns.
- Partner with the Director of Diversity, Community, and Inclusion to work with the Director of Academic Assistance and the Academic Assistance Office.
- Partner with the Athletics Director to respond to students’ and parents’ Athletic concerns that affect a student’s academic life.
- Partner with the Dean of Arts and the Dean of Religion to help coordinate the academic life of the school.
- Develop and manage budgets for General Education and Academics.
- Develop a long-term strategic plan and vision for the Academic Pillar.
- Represent academics at school events and in publications.
- Contribute to the Student/Parent Handbook and serve on committees.
- Participate in the Senior Administrative and Internal Operations groups.
- Teach one class per semester or one-year long course.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with faculty, staff, students and parents.
- Strategic thinker with ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Collaborative leader who fosters problem-solving and innovation.
Work Environment:
- Occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
