The Campus Security Guard supports a safe, secure, and welcoming school environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position is responsible for monitoring campus activity, enforcing safety procedures, assisting with emergency response, and supporting daily operations and special events in alignment with the school’s mission and values.
Job Requirements
- Maintain a safe and secure campus environment during school hours, before and after school activities, and special events.
- Monitor campus access points, parking lots, event areas, student arrival and dismissal, and visitor activity.
- Operate and monitor security systems, including cameras, gate access controls, door access controls, and lockdown systems; assist with basic troubleshooting as needed.
- Provide leadership and direction to off-duty police officers and contracted security personnel when assigned.
- Assist the Director of Operations and the Director of Safety & Security with scheduling security coverage for special events.
- Support faculty and staff parking operations, including assignment of spaces and distribution of parking permits and RFID tags.
- Direct traffic safely and effectively before and after school and during major campus events.
- Respond calmly and appropriately to emergencies and safety concerns in accordance with established protocols.
- Accurately document and report all incidents, accidents, and safety concerns using required procedures and forms.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by school leadership.
- Support and uphold the school’s mission, values, and community standards.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Minimum of four (4) years of security experience.
- Bachelor’s or Associate Degree
- Ability to conduct security patrols independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency or willingness to learn security-related technology, including video monitoring, access control, and alarm systems.
- Ability to complete routine reports and documentation accurately and on time.
- Ability to safely operate motor vehicles, both electric and gas-powered.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions, procedures, and safety protocols.
- Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, professionalism, and a customer-service mindset when working with students, families, staff, and visitors.
- Ability to remain calm, make sound judgments, and act effectively in emergency or high-stress situations.
- Ability to identify potential safety hazards or security risks and report concerns promptly to appropriate personnel.
