Overview
We are seeking a passionate and energetic RN Nurse Trainer to join our team on a part-time basis. In this vital role, you will leverage your extensive nursing experience to train and mentor clinical staff, ensuring they are well-versed in the latest healthcare practices, regulations, and patient care techniques. Your expertise will help foster a knowledgeable, compliant, and compassionate team dedicated to exceptional epilepsy care.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES TO INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Train staff on medication administration and other medical issues as mandated by DHS.
  • Attend DHS required trainings when scheduled.
  • Review yearly Nursing Services Packet for each consumer, as required by DHS.
  • Complete annual nursing assessments on all Medicaid Waiver consumers
  • On Call—be available 24 hours per day, with the agency cell phone, to answer any medication questions or address any medical issues that arise with the agency cell phone.
  • Review medication changes and provide any necessary training on changes to the Direct Care Staff.
  • Review the Medication Administration Records for accuracy on a weekly basis.
  • Conduct and document tardive dyskinesia screening every 6 months or as needed.
  • Monitor general medical status of individuals and insure care including lab work, medical, dental, vision and other appointments are completed as needed in accordance with rules 115 and 116. Consult with medical professional regarding individual’s needs and concerns.
  • Document in nursing notes at least monthly. Insure charting and thorough documentation on medical issues, physician recommendations and treatments.
  • Attend ISP meetings as scheduled by the QIDPs.
  • Ensuring consumers are assisted by the DSP and Lead DSP as needed with personal hygiene and activities of daily living.
  • Coordinate with the Lead DSP to schedule necessary medical appointment and ensure proper staffing for medical appointments, ensuring proper documentation is taken to the medical appointments, and ensuring that any changes and recommendations are documented in the consumer’s chart and reported to the nurse.
  • Ensuring that all allegations of abuse and neglect are reported immediately (with in 4 hours of knowledge of the occurrence per agency policy) and ordering medical examinations when applicable.
  • Ensuring that incident reports are completed, and ensuring that incidents/injuries are documented as soon as possible after the incidents/injuries are observed or discovered.
  • Ensuring universal precautions and infection control procedures are followed, and ensuring health and safety standards are maintained as outlined in the program policies and procedures.
  • Training of all DSPs and Lead DSP with respect to their responsibilities and duties with regards to medication and medical issues.
  • Supervising, training and ensuring DSPs and Lead DSP accurately report and document seizures, medical issues, and possible medication side effects.
  • Make recommendations regarding discharge for serious infractions by Habilitation DSPs of the agency’s policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.Qualifications
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license with current state certification.
  • Critical care experience including ICU or acute care settings is essential.
  • Prior nursing home or hospital experience with a focus on patient-centered care.
  • Demonstrated success in clinical staff training, precepting or teaching hospital-based education programs.
  • Strong knowledge of health regulation policies such as HIPAA and state healthcare regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and presentation purposes.
  • Excellent understanding of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, and medical records management.
  • Experience in pediatric nursing or home care environments is highly desirable.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams and facilitate adult learning principles.
