A Medical Assistant is a position focused on medication administration for individuals with disabilities. Dedicated to supporting the health, safety, and well-being of individuals through accurate medication dispensing, documentation, and monitoring as delegated by an agency RN trainer. This person is committed to promoting dignity, independence, and quality of life while working collaboratively with healthcare teams, caregivers, and support staff in a person-centered care environment.
Department/Program Development and Coordination (Delivery of Quality Service)
1. As a mandated reporter, ensure all allegations of abuse and neglect are reported as required.
2. Ensure compliance with all HIPAA and confidentiality requirements.
3. Complete all mandatory documentation accurately, honestly, and on time. Ensure documentation and records are maintained in accordance with pertinent policies, procedures, and standards of practice, and complete steps to ensure that each person’s chart is up to date and accurate.
4. To verify and ensure your payroll timecard is accurate by Monday before noon for the previous week worked.
5. Need to complete all required training within 120 days of initial employment and stay in compliance with all the required annual training refreshers.
6. Continuously seeks feedback to ensure that medical support meets the needs of individuals served.
7. Attend medication administration training and then follow all rules and regulations associated with being delegated/authorized to administer medications according to orders.
Accurately administer prescribed medications to clients according to physician orders and organizational policies. Ensuring proper dosage, timing, and route (oral, topical, inhaled, etc.)
Prepare medications for administration. Ensuring safe storage of medication according to regulatory guidelines (locked cabinets, refrigeration, etc.). Assures that medical cart is appropriately stocked and properly attended to and secured/locked when not in use.
Perform various reporting and communication tasks as directed by supervisor, including tracking requested by other agencies for individuals who use EP!C community day program.
Complete enteral tube (G-Tube) feedings in accordance with the physician's orders.
Performs all necessary documentation (such as in the electronic medication administration record) with accuracy and upon each medication administration.
Work closely with nurses and other support staff.
Serve on committees and/or work groups, as requested.
Communicate effectively with individuals using respectful and appropriate language.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Successfully complete CPR, First Aid, Infection Control, and Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training and maintain these certifications.
- Must complete DSP training in accordance with the state regulations and maintain acceptable status on the Health Care Worker’s Registry under the Healthcare Worker’s Background Check Act.
- Must obtain/maintain standing as an Authorized Direct Support Person for medication administration.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.
