Position Overview
We are seeking a Controller to take ownership of our financial operations, reporting, and accounting systems. This role is critical in bringing structure, accuracy, and visibility to our financials while supporting continued company growth.
This is not a basic accounting role—we are looking for someone who understands construction financials, Managing invoicing processes, job costing, and cash flow management.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Prepare and manage monthly financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all financial data
- Maintain and improve accounting systems and processes
Job Costing & WIP
- Manage and maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules
- Track project profitability, cost overruns, and margin performance
- Ensure proper job cost coding and reporting across all projects
Cash Flow & Forecasting
- Monitor and manage company cash flow on a weekly basis
- Forecast incoming receivables and outgoing obligations
- Assist leadership with financial planning and decision-making
Team Oversight
- Oversee Billing Manager and AR/AP functions
- Ensure timely billing, collections, and vendor payments
- Implement accountability and improve workflow processes
Systems & Process Improvement
- Establish and maintain financial controls and procedures
- Improve billing cycles, reporting accuracy, and internal communication
- Help standardize financial operations across all projects
External Coordination
- Work with CPA, banks, and bonding companies
- Assist with audits, tax preparation, and compliance
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in accounting/finance (construction industry strongly preferred)
- Strong knowledge of:
- Job costing
- WIP reporting
- Percentage of completion accounting
- Experience managing accounting staff
- Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, or similar)
- Advanced Excel skills
- Strong organizational and leadership abilities
