POSITION SUMMARY

To provide recent College graduates and career-oriented candidates comprehensive and intensive transportation training critical to their career growth and development within Epes Logistics Services, Inc.

 

This is a pass/fail program, any candidates who do not perform well are released from the program.

 

Successful completion of the program does not guarantee promotion to management. Placement occurs where needed and successful Career Path candidates are encouraged to apply for future potential positions as they arise.

Qualifications:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

 

“Hands-on” training with various departments in order to understand core competencies of inter-departmental relationships and overall strategic plan and provide a strong foundation for current operations as well as potential future management needs.

 

Developing and enhancing communication skills as a result of interaction with cross-sectional workforce and various levels of management.

 

Development of leadership skills through training in the area of operations, seminars, etc...

 

Development of administrative skills through evaluation process, expense reports and scheduling process.

 

Travel to ELS offices in Laredo (TX), Atlanta (GA), and Charlotte (NC) for cross functional shadowing and training opportunities. Provide follow up and assessments for each location.

 

Completion and submission of various evaluation forms to the Training Specialist.

 

Weekly completion and submission of expense reports to the Training Specialist.

 

Attend weekly meetings with the Training Specialist to review previous training learned and/or concerns.

                              

Performs other duties as may become necessary or assigned.

  • Timely and accurate submission of paperwork. Attendance.

  • Recent graduate from a college with a major in Business, Industrial Distribution and Logistics, Marketing, Communications, Operations, Transportation, or related field.
  • Good working knowledge of computer/PC software (WORD, EXCEL).
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug test.
  • Excellent work history (if applicable) with proven track record.
  • Professional, clean, neat appearance
  • No conviction of felonies, serious crimes or have charges pending. However, a conviction is not an automatic disqualification of employment.
  • Ability to work independently.  Ability to take initiative and be a self-starter.
  • Ability to plan and organize workload.  Ability to handle very detailed information.
  • Ability and flexibility to handle work pressure and work with interruptions.
  • Ability to meet work processes deadlines.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Ability to function as a team player.
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers, employees, vendors, consultants.

  • Ability to read and comprehend general instructions, correspondence, and memos. 
  • Ability to read and interpret general business periodicals. 
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and speak before groups of employees and outside consultants and respond to questions/comments from the same.

  • Excellent mathematical skills in adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and analyzing rates.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to determine reasonableness of detail and summary information as related to accounting reports.  Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel or crouch.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally roll or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee will work on a computer and simultaneously use the telephone more than 90% of the time and must have good hand/finger dexterity.  The employee will also be required to travel various distances as needed.
