What are the responsibilities and job description for the Principal Product Engineer position at EPC Space?
The individual contributor will be responsible for product and test engineering of key product lines at EPC Space. He/she will be responsible for product characterization and yield optimization of EPC Space growing line of Rad-hard ICs and discrete components; design, build, and maintenance of automated test systems. Key responsibilities include product definition and development, creating test hardware and software (often using Python or LabVIEW), collaborating with cross-functional teams, performing root cause analysis, and providing technical support for production and quality assurance. Essential skills include a strong foundation in analog and power electronics, programming proficiency, analytical problem-solving, and effective communication.
Key Responsibilities
- Product Characterization: Perform detailed characterization of semiconductor devices to validate performance against design specifications, including parametric testing, yield analysis, and reliability testing.
- Yield Optimization: Analyze production test data to identify yield issues, implement process improvements, and enhance product manufacturability.
- Technical Support: Provide hands-on support to manufacturing teams, troubleshooting test system issues, resolving production bottlenecks, and implementing corrective actions.
- Design and Develop Test Systems: Create automated test equipment (ATE) and test programs for design verification and production testing.
- Software Development: Write test software in languages like Python, C , or LabVIEW to automate testing processes.
- Hardware Design: Design electronic circuits and select commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware for test systems.
- Test Procedure Development: Create test specifications, test instructions, and verification plans to ensure products meet quality standards.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with R&D, production, quality, and manufacturing engineering teams.
- Documentation: Generate detailed documentation for test equipment, test procedures, and test results.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement improvements to test processes and equipment to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Root Cause Analysis: Investigate test equipment failures to find root causes and implement preventative measures.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or a related field is required. A master’s degree is preferred.
- Technical Expertise: Proficiency in electronics, electronic systems, components, and assemblies. Knowledge of testing methodologies, industry standards (e.g., ISO, MIL-STD), and quality management systems.
- Programming Skills: Practical programming skills in languages such as Python, C , or LabVIEW.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills to effectively collaborate with teams and customers.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to debug complex issues.
- Teamwork: Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to travel domestically: 20% of the time.
