Google Cloud Platform Architect Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform) Architect to design, implement, and optimize scalable cloud solutions. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Google Cloud Platform services, cloud architecture frameworks, security best practices, and enterprise-grade application/platform modernization.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Architecture & Design

• Design end-to-end cloud architectures using Google Cloud Platform services such as Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, VPC, Cloud SQL, Spanner, and more.

• Develop scalable, secure, and cost-optimized cloud solutions aligned with enterprise standards.

• Create reference architectures, design diagrams, and technical documentation.

Solution Delivery & Implementation

• Lead cloud migration efforts including assessment, planning, and execution using tools like Velostrata, Migrate for Compute Engine, Cloud Storage Transfer Service, etc.

• Oversee deployment of applications, data pipelines, and infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform.

• Work closely with development, DevOps, and security teams to ensure best practices are followed.

Security, Compliance & Governance

• Implement IAM, VPC Service Controls, network segmentation, and encryption best practices.

• Support compliance frameworks such as SOC2, HIPAA, PCI, ISO27001 where required.

• Set up monitoring, logging, and incident response strategies through Cloud Logging, Cloud Monitoring, and Security Command Center.

DevOps & Automation

• Implement CI/CD pipelines using Cloud Build, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Spinnaker.

• Build Infrastructure-as-Code solutions using Terraform, Deployment Manager, or Anthos Config Management.

• Automate provisioning, scaling, and operations across cloud resources.

Collaboration & Leadership

• Act as a technical advisor to engineering teams, product teams, and leadership.

• Provide guidance on cloud best practices, performance optimization, and cost management.

• Conduct architecture reviews, risk assessments, and hands-on technical troubleshooting.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 10 years experience in cloud engineering/architecture; 5 years hands-on with Google Cloud Platform.

• Strong knowledge of cloud networking, Kubernetes (GKE), microservices, containerization (Docker), and serverless architecture.

• Experience with Terraform, CI/CD, scripting (Python, Bash, Go), and automation.

• Hands-on experience with enterprise migration and modernization projects.

• Solid understanding of IAM, security controls, compliance, and cloud governance.

• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Google Professional Cloud Architect or Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer Certification.

• Experience with multi-cloud or hybrid cloud (Anthos, VMware Engine).

• Exposure to big data analytics (BigQuery, Dataflow, Dataproc).

• Experience with SRE concepts: SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, reliability engineering.
