Position Summary:

Are you a Certified Nursing Assistant, LPN, or Medical Assistant who enjoys working with young children and wants to make an impact outside of a traditional healthcare setting?

Join our team as a Medical Health Specialist and help support the health and well-being of children across our Head Start, Early Head Start, and ECEAP programs. In this role, you will work closely with our Health Team to conduct hearing and vision screenings, monitor health and immunization requirements, and provide medical support to children with special health needs under the direction of a Registered Nurse. You will also work directly in classroom and home-based environments, helping ensure children can safely participate and thrive in their early learning experience.

Compensation & Schedule:

This is a project position funded through the 2026-2027 program year and is anticipated to end in June 2027. This position is benefitted and is budgeted for 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The wage for this role is $25 per hour.

Travel between EOCF program sites and the Administration Office is required.

Required Education

Current Certified Nursing Assistant credential, Medical Assistant credential or Licensed Practical Nurse credential.

Preferred Experience

Experience providing medical care in a pediatric, clinical, community, school, and/or childcare setting.

Knowledge of

Principles of child development and developmentally appropriate practices for children birth to five years of age.

Medication administration in a classroom setting.

Certified nursing assistant care, including tube feeding, diabetic care, seizure first aid, and following physician and nursing orders.

Child immunization schedules and requirements, including the ability to identify immunization compliance.

Pediatric hearing and vision screening practices and equipment.

Child growth patterns and accurate height and weight collection.

Technological proficiency and accurate electronic health record documentation.

Ability to

Communicate effectively and build supportive relationships with children and families from varying backgrounds.

Conduct hearing and vision screenings with children from 2 months to 5 years of age in preschool, classroom, or home-based settings.

Provide medical support for children with special health needs under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Monitor and accurately document children's health, screening, and immunization requirements.

Work cooperatively and professionally with Health Team members, classroom staff, families, and other colleagues.

Maintain accurate and confidential health records using ChildPlus, ELMS, and other electronic systems.

Follow medical guidance, nursing directives, and established health and safety procedures.

Work actively with young children, including frequent standing, bending, getting on and off the floor, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Interviews will begin once a qualified pool is reached.
