What are the responsibilities and job description for the Optometric Technician position at Envision Eyecare LLC?
The Optometric Technician assists the Optometrist with general appointments to keep the office running smoothly and efficiently. This includes a variety of patient care tasks, including preparation of patients to be seen by doctor, performance of diagnostic tests, and appropriate documentation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1) Provide exceptional patient care clinically and by creating a customer/patient service experience that is phenomenal for each patient.
2) Acquire medical history and chief complaint of patient, prepare patient chart, and ensure confidentiality of all records.
3) Introduce yourself and ask open-ended questions about what brought the patient in today.
4) Explain the pre-tests you will perform test prior to or while performing it.
5) Perform auto refraction and other appropriate pretests such as tonometry, color vision, visual acuity, stereopsis, etc.
6) Enter all pretest findings and update medication list into the EHR system.
7) Assist patient with the dilation process as needed.
8) Document auto-refraction in EHR system.
9) Clean all instruments with alcohol prep-pads.
10) Assist patients with contact lens education.
11) Provide back-up to all other areas of the clinic as needed.
Administrative duties for this position include faxing, copying, making phone calls, preparing patients' medical records, scanning, and entering extensive data in the office's computer
Skills required of the Optometric Technician include:
1) The ability to use and maintain a automatic lensometer, autorefractor, phoropter, auto and keratometer, tonopen, Goldman Tonometry, slit lamp, color vision plates, stereo vision test, and personal computers.
2) Extremely efficient, organized and resourceful; must also be flexible and able to function well in a fast-paced environment with great interpersonal skills to deal with many personalities.
3) Strong decision-making skills.
4) Shall be able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate with patients and other staff members.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Employee must have a high school diploma. Not necessary but preferred completion of a basic optometry course, equivalent paraoptometric training, or paraoptometric certification Knowledge of OCT would be beneficial but not required. Additional front office or optical experience is a plus.
