Duties
- Assist patients in choosing eyewear by understanding their needs, preferences, and lifestyle to recommend suitable frames and lenses.
- Conduct preliminary eye exams, including measuring visual acuity, refraction tests, and assessing vital signs relevant to eye health.
- Support ophthalmologists and optometrists by preparing patients for examinations and documenting findings accurately in electronic medical records (EMR) systems such as Epic.
- Manage optical inventory, including laboratory experience with lens fitting, frame adjustments, and ensuring proper aseptic techniques during equipment handling.
- Process insurance claims and medical billing with attention to detail, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and accurate coding for ophthalmology services.
- Educate patients on eye health, medication usage, and proper contact lens care while maintaining a compassionate approach tailored to pediatrics and senior care populations.
- Maintain a clean and organized clinic environment adhering to safety protocols and infection control standards.
Experience
- Prior experience working in an optical setting or ophthalmology clinic is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology related to eye anatomy, physiology, and common ocular conditions.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms used for medical records management.
- Demonstrated ability to perform laboratory tasks including lens fitting, calibration of diagnostic equipment, and laboratory experience with optical devices.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
- Experience in retail sales or retail management is advantageous for engaging customers effectively.
- Ability to communicate complex medical information clearly to diverse patient groups including pediatrics and seniors.
