Job Overview
In the role of Environmental Laboratory Assistant, you will be responsible for a variety of supporting tasks for our growing location. Some of these include; collecting samples from clients transporting them back to our laboratory, analyze them and coordinate reporting of results. A significant portion of this position involves driving a company vehicle, making strong driving skills and a clean driving record essential.

Position Details:
- Full-time (minimum 36 hours/week)
- Regular schedule: Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends as needed.
Primary Responsibilities
- Collect sand transport samples of water, soil, air and other environmental materials.
- Follow scheduled routes while remaining flexible to accommodate route changes or additional stops as needed.
- Record detailed data of all sampling information collected
- Operate and maintain regular calibration of field sampling equipment and laboratory equipment.
- Conduct microbiological testing and analysis.
- Prepare and sterilize materials, glassware and equipment as needed.
- Measure, balance, and prepare media for analysis.
- Conduct microbiological testing and analysis.
- Operates laboratory equipment (equipment used for microbial identification; microscopes; incubators, refrigerators; microplate readers; balances and pH meters, UV, density meter, conductivity meter and other laboratory equipment)
- Demonstrate complete knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Perform all work within established quality control parameters and within specified turnaround times.
- Ensure problems with samples are reported and/or documented as required
- Must be able to initiate corrective action without prompting and assist co-workers whenever necessary in order to meet deadlines.
- Dispose samples and chemicals

Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- Able to handle simple math calculations
- Flexibility to work in a fast-paced productive environment.
- Requires extreme attention to detail, with great documentation skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work both independently and as part of a team.
- Must be proficient in data entry with knowledge of basic computer systems.
- A self-starter worker, willing to help when needed
- Ability to organize, prioritize, multi-task, and adapt to changing priorities.
- Knowledge in general laboratory instrumentations such as incubators, sterilizers, oven, scales, pH meters, air samplers, microscopes, Biohazards, UV, densitometer, conduct meter.
- Computer knowledge of Word, Excel, and LIMS (preferred)
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, physics, or other science related coursework.
- One or more years of work experience in a laboratory setting preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Accurate visual inspection is necessary for the recognition of positive microorganism growth. A 20/20 visual eye accuracy with or without correction and good perception of yellow color.
- The ability to stand or sit for up to 8 hours while working.
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs., bend and stretch, stand for extended periods of time, reach, twist sit, and walk.
- Able to speak and hear clearly while communicating.
- Dexterity in hands and fingers to operate equipment and handle glassware.
- Must have average vision and be able to read reports and operate equipment.
