Environmental Consulting & Technology, Inc. (ECT) is seeking a Project Manager / Lead Bat Biologist to support the growth and development of our bat biology program within the Midwest region and beyond. The Project Manager will manage and coordinate multi-disciplinary projects across energy, natural resources, and infrastructure sectors while helping expand ECT’s bat services through strong project execution, technical expertise, and team development. The desired candidate will have proven experience in bat survey methods and ecological field work. This position requires technical expertise, strong organizational skills, and the ability to lead teams, mentor staff, and collaborate across disciplines to deliver high-quality results.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Manage multiple multi-disciplinary projects across environmental, natural resources, and engineering disciplines, with a focus on bat-related work
• Lead project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and coordination of field and office teams to prepare quality and timely deliverables
• Apply expert knowledge of federal and state regulations, including the Endangered Species Act, and Midwest-specific environmental compliance requirements
• Lead and participate in bat-related field efforts, including presence/absence surveys (mist-netting and acoustics), radio-telemetry, emergence surveys, and habitat assessments
• Support the growth of ECT’s bat program through project delivery, technical leadership, and collaboration across regions
• Mentor and develop junior and mid-level staff, including training field crews and building internal bat survey capabilities
• Oversee or collaborate on ecological investigations, including survey design, field execution, data interpretation, and agency coordination
• Support and contribute to proposal preparation and client communication, helping expand bat-related opportunities across the Midwest
• Serve as a primary client point of contact, maintaining positive relationships and providing responsive, high-quality project delivery
• Collaborate with senior leadership to align project goals with ECT’s strategic growth and resource planning efforts
• Coordinate with technical specialists across ECT’s Natural Resources, Cultural Resources, and Engineering disciplines to deliver integrated solutions
• Lead or participate in QA/QC reviews to promote accuracy and consistency across project documentation and deliverables
• Maintain strong working relationships with federal, state, and local agencies, including coordination with U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and state wildlife agencies
Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related field required
• 5–7 years of experience in environmental consulting, with emphasis on bat survey methods, habitat assessments, and regulatory compliance
• Federally permitted bat biologist (USFWS Section 10(a)(1)(A) Recovery Permit) strongly preferred
• In-depth understanding of federal and Midwest state regulations, including Endangered Species Act compliance and permitting
• Demonstrated ability to manage multi-disciplinary project teams and complex project scopes
• Experience with energy, infrastructure, or natural resource projects strongly desired
• Proven experience developing technical reports, agency submittals, and client communications
• Experience supervising field crews and mentoring staff preferred
