Brief Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Plant Manager, the Environmental Engineer would assist and/or organize the development and implementation of Environmental programs and systems (compliance/management, etc.). This position establishes and promotes the maintenance of safe and healthy working conditions, develops environmental protection methods based upon current industry technology & best business practices to ensure environmental compliance objectives are met, and recommends measures to reduce environmental and safety risks and the impact to manufacturing operations.

Hours / Special Conditions
8 hour shifts 5 days week; Present to fulfill job duties & meet operational demands/support; Schedule may vary depending on plant operational needs thus flexibility is required which may include long days, evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime; Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position

- Requires minimum of 5 years working demonstrated knowledge in these key areas:
- RCRA Laws
- Hazardous Waste Manifest
- SPCC Laws
- Storm Water Prevention - ability to conduct samples from wells
- Tier II Reporting experience
- TIR Reporting
- Air PBR or Title V Reporting and inspection
- Promote a Safety-First culture within the company through frequent interaction with management and all line personnel; acts as the plant resource for environmental information on procedures, guidelines and standards; serves as plant contact for environmental issues
- Perform boots on the ground environmental oversight by identifying and correcting workplace hazards and unsafe conditions
- Conducts and tracks environmental core programs by assisting with presenting training, 1:1 training with team members, site audits, and ensure implementation and adherence of HSE policies
- Assist the Health/Safety & Environmental Department with the following:
- Performs/coordinates certain Environmental, and IH monitoring, data collection, analyzing and reporting for the Plant
- Perform tasks related to Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulatory hazardous waste handling, storage and disposal requirements
- Internal procedures and processes created to meet the requirements and standards as outlined by OSHA and EPA
- Conduct job hazard analysis assessments
- Assist in responding and providing information to any Safety and Environmental agencies or clients reviewing/auditing our safety and/or environmental programs
- Responsible for hazardous and non-hazardous waste management
- Update and administer adherence to the Spill Prevention Control Countermeasures (SPCC) plan
- Stay up to date and inform leadership of new and proposed environmental laws and regulations
- Work within the EPA STEERS reporting database
- Conduct, facilitate and/or coordinate employee environmental training programs
- Follow all Health & Safety and Environmental requirements that are defined on work instructions or communicated in training
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Required – Bachelor of Science degree with an emphasis in Environmental Compliance, Environmental Engineering or relevant field of study
- Minimum 5 years’ experience implementing and overseeing aspects related to the environmental programs
- Proven track record of providing environmental support at an organization >50 people with field staff
- Knowledge of manufacturing equipment, controls and maintenance programs preferred
- Requires a working demonstrated knowledge in these key areas:

- Storm Water Prevention - ability to conduct samples from wells
- Tier II Reporting experience
- TIR Reporting
- Air Permitting
- Strong knowledge and experience in interpreting, applying and documenting federal, state and local safety; transportation and environmental regulations
- Knowledge of specific Federal and State environmental laws and regulations required, knowledge as it applies specifically to a manufacturing industry a plus
- Understanding manufacturing processes
- Prefer data collection and analysis experience in a high volume automated manufacturing environment
- Instructional experience in a group business setting; outstanding presentation skills
- Experience developing yearly training plans and materials for all departments throughout the company
- Strong organizational skills and proven ability to maintain accurate, detailed records that will be audited periodically
- Must be able to identify and execute improvement opportunities through both process improvements and system improvements
- Ability to take ownership and responsibility with little direction
- Ability to effectively train people outside their work group
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with others, friendly and personable
- Preference will be given to qualified local candidates
- Intermediate level of knowledge in basic hardware and software using of a variety of different computer operating systems such as Microsoft Office Work, Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, Visio, Google Workspace, Outlook/Gmail and web-site software required
- Has the ability to learn new software systems and data management systems quickly
- Proficient keyboarding and typing skills
