As we continue to grow, we are seeking a responsible and detail-oriented professional to join our team as an Overlay Assembly (Carpenter) in our Lawrence, KS location.
This role uses advanced carpentry skills to create aesthetic effects for specialty and custom ordered garage doors.
SHIFT:
ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Perform advanced carpentry tasks such as framing, windows installation, and trim work.
- Performs all duties safely and efficiently, ensures the safety for all in the work envelope.
- Responsible for producing high quality products to include required quality checks and reporting.
- Ability to identify sections and what sections are used in the building of custom design garage doors.
- Must know how to set up and use routers and saws, to include performing minor adjustments to the equipment in order to produce a quality product.
- Fluent in the reading and implementation of blueprints and cut sheets.
- Advanced measurement skills to include the use of tools such as calipers to identify part specifications and gauge tolerances.
- Must be able to function in all areas of the department to assist proper workflow and timely completion of product.
- Responsible for accurate and timely completion of the required production documents and end-of-shift paperwork, to include inventory transaction reports and completed work order reports.
- Experienced with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems such as Navigator. Must be able to learn the Navigator system and pass training courses.
- Be able to sort the work benches to release the labels in the correct order.
- Ability to run in batch, priority sequence and manufacture according to the bill of materials. Must follow production run sequence from the work bench or as directed by leadership.
- Responsible for inventory accuracy of parts and sections that are consumed in the production process, recording and entering inventory transactions in a timely fashion.
- Sets the pace of the production line; ensures production is met on a daily basis and is efficient. Identifies barriers to increase output and communicates barriers to leadership.
- Ability to communicate effectively to all levels of leadership.
- Responsible for keeping work area clean and tools in good working order.
- All duties as assigned by leadership.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to move about the manufacturing floor safely and efficiently.
- Must be able to lift 45 lbs. unassisted with or without reasonable accommodation, continuously and frequently overhead. Lifting of more than 45 lbs requires team lifting of at least 2 people.
- Continuously and/or frequently required to lift, carry, push, or pull objects ranging from 45 lbs. to 80 lbs. Weights over 45 lbs. require teamwork of at least 2 people.
- Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods of time (8-12 hours daily).
- Bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing stairs and/or ladders may be required for specific work tasks.
- Ability to perform tasks that require using hands, wrists, and fingers.
- Ability to work in loud, fast paced industrial environment.
- Manual dexterity and hand to eye coordination with hand/power tools.
- Mathematical and measuring skills required for quality checks and basic equipment adjustments -- equivalent to that of a carpenter or mechanic.
- Potential work in tight and confined spaces.
- Occasional use of ladders and work in high spaces.
- Frequent use of computer, keyboard, tablet, and/or scanner may be required for specific work tasks.
- Must be able to work in hot and cold environments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED (EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS):
- Fluent with blueprints and cut sheets.
- Intermediate computer skills to include Excel and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems.
- Understanding of inventory control practices.
- Carpentry level mathematical skills.
- Mastery level of measurement skill, in line with trim or cabinetry carpentry.
