Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Enterprise Project Manager / Interim Director of Research Computing to provide immediate leadership and organizational stabilization for the Research Computing team within the Division of IT.
This is an executive-level transformational leadership role focused on improving organizational culture, operational effectiveness, governance, resource management, customer service, and long-term departmental readiness.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead overall departmental operations, research technology infrastructure, and related IT services.
- Supervise managers, professional staff, and student employees.
- Establish performance expectations and drive employee accountability.
- Lead organizational transformation, change management, and culture improvement initiatives.
- Evaluate organizational effectiveness and recommend structural improvements.
- Establish governance, communication, and decision-making processes.
- Manage large and complex technology initiatives and strategic projects.
- Assess current infrastructure, services, projects, procedures, and budget requirements.
- Improve service delivery, customer engagement, and operational processes.
- Develop and monitor departmental KPIs and performance metrics.
- Coordinate budgets and strategic resource allocation.
- Ensure compliance with university policies, security standards, audits, and regulatory requirements.
- Remove operational barriers affecting productivity, innovation, and collaboration.
- Provide executive-level reports, recommendations, and strategic direction.
- Develop succession planning, transition documentation, and recommendations for permanent leadership.
- Mentor and develop team members to support long-term organizational success.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- 8 years of experience leading organizational transformation, change management, and service delivery optimization.
- 8 years of experience leading large, complex technology projects.
- 8 years of experience in personnel management, coaching, and performance accountability.
- Strong executive-level leadership and decision-making experience.
- Experience managing organizational change and improving operational performance.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Research Computing / Cyberinfrastructure.
- High-Performance Computing (HPC).
- High-speed storage and networking technologies.
- Governance and operational maturity frameworks.
- Organizational change within higher education / university environments.
- IT service management and service desk operations.
- Strategic planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
Preferred Education / Certifications
- Master's degree in Science, Technology, or related field.
- ITIL certification/training.
- AWS / Azure Cloud Infrastructure experience.
- AI Infrastructure experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Carpentries Instructor experience.
- HPC technology training/experience, including:
- Slurm
- InfiniBand
