Position Summary
The Unarmed Security Officer is responsible for providing comprehensive security services at Rapid Prototyping Research Center (RPRC). This role requires expertise in access control, surveillance systems, incident response, and enforcement of federal, state, and local security regulations. The officer will monitor facility operations, protect personnel and assets, process security-related documentation, and ensure compliance with organizational and government security standards. This position is essential in maintaining the safety, confidentiality, and operational integrity of a specialized research environment.
Key Responsibilities
Facility Security & Surveillance
- Monitor CCTV, DVR, and video surveillance systems; retrieve, save, and review footage as required.
- Perform interior and exterior preventive patrols, reporting unauthorized persons, malfunctions, lighting issues, and alarms.
- Operate, adjust, and troubleshoot video systems, cameras, and surveillance hardware.
- Maintain secure entrance and exit operations, screen vehicles/personnel at the gate, and raise/lower crash gates after appropriate safety checks.
- Check and log building deliveries; notify receiving agents for retrieval.
- Serve as escort for cleaning personnel and other authorized individuals.
Access Control & Security Systems
- Utilize access control software to monitor alarms, acknowledge alerts, and respond appropriately.
- Troubleshoot access control hardware including card readers, proximity cards, key control systems, and touch padlocks.
- Ensure compliance with all site security protocols, SOPs, and safety procedures provided by client.
- Work closely with the RPRC management team to coordinate ongoing security and safety requirements.
Security Clearance & Documentation
- Manage and process personnel security clearance applications in accordance with government regulations.
- Conduct background checks and verify applicant credentials for classified access eligibility.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of all clearances, renewals, and updates.
- Coordinate with law enforcement, military officials, and relevant agencies for information gathering.
Incident Response & Emergency Support
- Respond promptly to security incidents and emergencies, conduct investigations, and recommend corrective actions.
- Apply first aid, CPR, or AED assistance when required. Understand and implement . . . Incident Command System (ICS) and FEMA regulatory guidelines.
- Participate in mandatory training programs provided by Mason staff.
Communication & Reporting
- Prepare clear, accurate, and professional written reports for incidents, patrols, and investigations.
- Communicate effectively with staff, visitors, management, and emergency responders.
- Provide excellent customer service while upholding high standards of professionalism, appearance, and conduct.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 21 years of age.
- High school diploma required (college or specialized training preferred).
- Rigid criminal background check (conducted and paid by contractor).
- First Aid and CPR/AED certification.
- Proven experience in security, law enforcement, military, or related fields.
- Experience with CCTV, DVR systems, and surveillance monitoring.
- Strong report-writing and communication skills (clear speech, legible writing).
- Knowledge of access control systems, alarms, and hardware troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with ICS, FEMA regulations, and general emergency procedures.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow instructions and SOPs.
- Professional appearance and strong customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, sensitive environment.
- U.S. Citizen with Active Secret Clearance.

Base Pay: $30,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
