Position Summary:
The Custodial Services Supervisor is responsible for the coordination and supervision of custodial services for an assigned site. This position coordinates work processes with upper management to ensure the effective daily and ongoing cleaning, sanitation, maintenance, grounds keeping, and janitorial service to the Head Start centers in accordance with established health and safety standards; ensuring that the work complies in accordance with Head Start performance standards, state licensing requirements and agency policies and procedures. Will be required to be on-call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues.


Essential Job Functions:

1. Empty all garbage and replace liners.
2. Vacuum carpets and spot clean any spots or stains that occur.
3. Clean and mop the floor.
4. Clean sinks and wipe down counter tops, sides, and bottoms.
5. Disinfect and fill soap and paper towel dispensers.
6. Wipe down doors and door handles.
7. Clean mirrors.
8. Wash windows inside and out twice during the program year.
9. Shampoo carpet once during the program year or as needed.
10. Strip and wax floors once during the program year or as needed.

11. Children and Adult Restrooms:
  • Empty garbage twice daily, replace liners as needed.
  • Clean and disinfect sinks, counter tops and toilets twice daily, including inside and outside of stool.
  • Check and fill as needed paper towel, toilet shields and toilet paper dispensers twice daily.
  • Clean disinfect all dispensers.
  • Clean mirrors daily and as needed.
  • Clean and mop floor.
  • Strip and wax floors once during program year or as needed.
12. Entryways and Hallways
  • Remove any garbage.
  • Sweep and mop floor.
  • Vacuum and spot clean any carpet areas.
  • Clean mats.
  • Wipe down doors and door handles.
  • Clean windows and/or door glass.
  • Strip and wax floor once during program year or as needed.
  • Shampoo carpet once during the program year or as needed.
  • Wipe down and clean any railing, ledges, or shelf areas.
13. Offices, including Main Office, staff offices, health room, conference room, staff lounge and parent areas:
  • Empty all garbage, including shredders.
  • Vacuum and spot clean any carpeted areas.
  • Clean and mop floors.
  • Wipe down doors, including handles and door glass.
  • Wipe down dust catching surfaces
  • Strip and wax floors at least once during program year.
  • Shampoo carpets at least once during program year.
  • Clean windows as needed or at least twice during program year.
14. Kitchen:
  • Assist kitchen staff in taking out garbage.
  • Assist kitchen staff in cleaning floor as needed.
  • Clean windows, doors and any glass if applicable.
  • Wash trash cans as needed.
15. Secure Building(s):
  • Turn off all lights.
  • Secure all windows and close blinds.
  • Lock all offices and classrooms.
  • Lock all exit doors.
  • Lock all doors to other buildings used by the program.
  • Lock all exit gates in playgrounds and play areas.
  • Set security system.
16. Maintenance:
  • Check light fixtures and replace bulbs as needed.
  • Maintain the general maintenance and care of the building and grounds. Perform minor maintenance and repairs within reasonable limits with Center Manager approval.
  • Maintain and keep neat and orderly the custodial room and any storage areas.
  • Check and/or change filters to heating and air conditioning units monthly or as needed.
  • Purchase needed and required supplies for Center.
17. Outdoor Responsibilities:
  • Keep walkways and lawn areas free of debris.
  • Sweep and rinse sidewalks and entryways.
  • Keep buildings free of cobwebs, dirt, etc. Rinse down outside of building at least twice during program year.
  • Clean windows at least twice during the program year.
  • Maintain playground equipment.
  • Water and mow lawns as needed during the growing season.
  • Assist Center Manager in compliance of rules and regulations regarding school grounds and equipment.
  • Keep gutters and downspouts free of debris.
  • Turn playground back weekly or as needed.
  • Wash outside trashcans as needed.
  • Set and repair outdoor underground sprinkler system.
18. Responsibilities during the winter weather conditions:
  • Snow removal of parking lot, sidewalks and any walkways
  • Deicing parking lot, playgrounds, sidewalks and any walkways
  • Must ensure safe walking conditions for all who enter the building, free from debris, ice and snow.

  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors; adverse weather conditions present, depending on the season.
  • Work requires periods of sitting, walking, standing, bending, kneeling, squatting, twisting, turning, reaching, pulling, pushing, climbing and carrying objects. Speaking, hearing, seeing and the ability to articulate clearly.
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds or a maximum of 50 pounds with dolly.
  • Potential exposure to blood borne pathogens;
  • Frequent exposure to cleaning products and chemicals.

Equipment Operated:
Personal computer, telephone, copy and fax machines

Conditions of Employment:
1. Prior to employment, complete a pre-employment drug screen, Tb skin test by an EPIC approved healthcare provider at no cost to the employee.
2. Pre-employment basic physical by an EPIC healthcare provider (obtain within (30) days of employment and no cost to the employee).
3. Must pass an initial and periodic background check through the Washington State Department of Children, Youth & Families (DCYF).
4. Provide proof of MMR vaccination and/ or resistance to Measles, Mumps & Rubella.
5. Current Food Handlers card (obtain the training within 30 days of employment).
6. Current First Aid/CPR card (obtain within thirty 30 days of employment).
8. Meet the minimum education requirements within the timeframe as stated in the performance standards.
9. Complete Child Abuse and Neglect training and all other mandated training.
10. CEO Approval.

1. Associates degree in related field, OR, combination of education and/or relevant work experience.
2. Two years previous custodial experience, with knowledge of sprinkler systems; minor repairs; appropriate use of cleaning chemicals, and proper health and safety practices.
3. Ability to physically operate floor stripper, buffer & carpet shampooer
4. Physically able to lift up to 50 pounds.
5. Posses a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation and required auto insurance.
6. Knowledge of HVAC systems is a plus.
