Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated regularly in accordance with the Board’s policy.
Job Summary
Rural Center Elementary School is looking for an experienced Secretary to assist in running an efficient and effective school office. This position will require a high degree of accuracy, accountability, attention to detail and confidentiality. The school Secretary must be people oriented, have the ability to multi-task and be highly organized.
Qualifications
- High school diploma, required.
- Associates or Bachelors Degree preferred, but not required.
- Minimum of three years of successful experience in a secretarial position or similar experience.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Provide clerical and administrative support to the Principal
- Ensure that the school operates in a consistently organized manner every day
- Coordinate appropriate documents for communication with the district office
- Maintain all recordkeeping for students and staff
- Maintain student and staff confidentiality in all circumstances
- Track attendance and absences; use reporting software and generate reports for internal and external use
- Communicate effectively with public and district staff
- Use common computer hardware and software with facility and under pressure
- Manage multi-line phone systems
- Perform petty cash and school funds transactions and recordkeeping
- Perform general office duties such as answering telephone inquiries, filing, mail, spreadsheets, and journal entries on a daily basis
- Maintain records with a high degree of accuracy
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to work with minimal direct supervision
- Provide services for teachers, administrators and students like typing, proofreading, editing, processing daily mail
- Compose and typeset correspondence and newsletters
- Maintain the integrity of information systems, databases, and office files
- Reconcile accounts
- Coordinate internal and external meetings appointments, events, workshops, seminars and special events
- Work and stay on task with frequent interruptions

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, talk and hear. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. On occasion the employee may be required to work extended hours.
