JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:
The focus of this position is to deliver power generation and energy storage projects that support the corporation’s stated sustainability goals of reducing carbon emissions.

The position will build an organization with the expertise and resources to accomplish Entergy’s carbon emissions reduction plan, through a mix developed and acquired projects. The role includes leadership of the corporation’s renewable development strategy and execution across various technologies including solar, wind, sustainable hydrogen, storage, etc. The role will entail leadership accountability for delivery of results from various decarbonization efforts, including external partnerships (i.e. current collaboration with Mitsubishi Power).

This position is directly responsible for the origination, structuring, management oversight of all front-end loading stages of utility scale renewables and hydrogen fuel project development followed by effective hand-off to Capital Projects/Contractors for successful execution.

Incumbent is a bona fide leader and a strong advocate for the partnering process with key stakeholders including internal/external support groups across Entergy and contractors. This individual is responsible for both the leadership needs of his/her own team along with building an effective relationship with key individuals in resource planning process, regulatory approvals, financial processes, and governance oversight processes. The ideal candidate will have a track record of entrepreneurial renewables project development who can take a market-based view of the utility service area and create competitive options for sustainable generation. Candidate should have a competitive mind-set and the ability to create winning partnerships across a wide range of stakeholders in a dynamic and fast paced market-facing environment.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Builds a powerful project development team that is totally focused on delivering renewable power generation and storage projects that enable the enterprise to meet the stated sustainability commitments
  • Leads the build out of strategy and transactions that may be needed for external partnership structures to execute development – can include M&A transactions, buy-outs as well as development partnerships which are market based
  • Demonstrates and leads with hands-on, industry, experience Dissects the economics of renewable development across the value chain, what can be executed at what price, and what development options create the greatest value for the enterprise and its customers.
  • Works with market-participants and internal resources to originate, structure, design, advance, and execute market-competitive development projects of various sizes from large to small scale renewables, including customer-sited installations.
  • Scopes, identifies, and recruits for critical team positions and key, internal and external, stakeholders
  • Understands, scopes, and advances the role of the Utility in the project development process and the role of the Public Utility Commission on self-build viability vs. purchased power viability
  • Identifies and executes opportunities to educate the business on renewable strategies, keeps key stakeholders apprised of roadmaps, development timeline, and workstreams, and seeks necessary approvals, where applicable, to carry out Entergy’s Carbon Emission reduction plan through sustainable asset development.
  • Develops a pipeline of projects across a number of potential sources and partnership structures which are innovative, and cost competitive
  • Manages the development of the portfolio’s vision and execution philosophy, which is market competitive, along with deliverables necessary to progress a project through the Stage Gate Process as defined by the Power Development team.
  • Develops critical relationships with key stakeholders (internal and external) that allows the team to work systematically and integrate projects with the enterprise.
  • Full understanding of the contractual aspects and economics of projects. Creates a contracting strategy that delivers superior economic performance and that can be executed safely, with high quality, while delivering cost and schedule certainty.
  • Quickly and efficiently works to negotiate and resolve contract challenges
  • Utilizes their relationship with Supply Chain to guide and assure the effective asset acquisitions that lead to the successful development of projects.
  • Works closely with the Regulatory functions to support the requirement of receiving the necessary certifications, including providing written and verbal testimony before the commissions.
  • Works closely with subject matter experts (SME’s) across Entergy’s Power Generation Environmental Team to determine permitting requirements necessary to implement and develop projects in conjunction with Capital Projects and/or contractors.
  • This position is required to collaborate with the various HR groups to implement DIB initiatives across the project team and the Sustainable Development Planning and Operations organization.
  • Mentorship and development of their team and the individual team members. Ensures a strong talent pipeline is developed to support the ongoing evolution of Entergy’s Power Development team. Works to ensure that leaders within the organization are developing their teams to create a successful, thriving, organization.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum education required of the position:
  • B.S. in Engineering discipline, Finance, Accounting, Construction Management, other applicable course of study, or equivalent work experience.
  • MBA or other advanced degree strongly preferred.

Minimum experience required of the position:
  • At least 20 years’ experience in capital projects development, or related discipline – including management experience.
  • Power Generation project development experience strongly preferred. Experience in competitive project development of renewables is a must-have
