Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering with a minimum of 8 years of aviation-related experience, or Master of Science degree in electrical engineering with a minimum of 5 years of directly related experience
- Experience designing aircraft electrical systems, components, and wiring
- Knowledge of AS50881 aerospace vehicle wiring requirements
- Knowledge of AC 43.13-1B standards and practices
- Experience developing electrical diagrams, block diagrams, interface control documents, and wiring diagrams
- Experience selecting wires and cables based on signal type, current, voltage, EMC, and EMI requirements
- Knowledge of electromagnetic compatibility segregation and routing requirements
- Experience implementing electromagnetic interference protection
- Experience performing first-article testing on newly designed components
- Experience creating or modifying code for system testing and debugging
- Proficiency with multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers
- Ability to travel occasionally within and outside the continental United States, including Alaska, Hawaii, the United Kingdom, and Europe
Preferred Skills
- Minimum of 10 years of electrical engineering design experience in military and civil aviation
- Experience supporting FAA Supplemental Type Certificate approval activities
- Experience supporting military airworthiness certification processes
- Knowledge of radio-frequency principles
- Familiarity with military specifications related to aircraft wiring and harnesses
- Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks Electrical, or comparable electrical drafting software
- Knowledge of aircraft manufacturing processes
- Experience developing test instrumentation and test equipment
- Experience with aircraft modification, retrofit, or system-upgrade programs
- Experience supporting electrical system integration and aircraft ground testing
Job Responsibilities
- Evaluate existing aircraft electrical systems, components, and applications
- Design, build, and test electrical components and systems
- Develop aircraft electrical diagrams and system block diagrams
- Create and maintain interface control documents
- Develop conceptual wiring diagrams and release detailed production wiring diagrams
- Define wiring architectures, routes, terminations, and installation requirements
- Establish EMC segregation routes based on signal type and system requirements
- Develop and implement EMI protection and mitigation methods
- Select aircraft wires, cables, connectors, shielding, and protective components
- Verify wiring selections meet current, voltage, signal, environmental, EMC, and EMI requirements
- Apply AS50881 and AC 43.13-1B requirements to electrical designs
- Conduct first-article testing for new electrical components and systems
- Develop or modify test and debug software
- Perform laboratory testing using multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers
- Troubleshoot electrical interfaces, wiring, signals, and system-integration issues
- Analyze test data and document system performance
- Support FAA certification and military airworthiness activities
- Coordinate electrical designs with mechanical, structural, systems, software, and manufacturing teams
- Review engineering drawings, test procedures, specifications, and technical documentation
- Support aircraft installation, integration, ground testing, and field activities
- Maintain electrical design records, test results, configuration documents, and drawing revisions
