This person will be responsible for the electrical design and coordination of commercial, healthcare, and institutional projects – from early concept through construction. Job Description
As we grow and expand, we have an immediate need for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Nashville office. This person will be responsible for the electrical design and coordination of commercial, healthcare, and institutional projects – from early concept through construction. The ideal candidate is experienced, detail-oriented, and capable of leading design efforts independently while mentoring junior team members.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design of electrical building systems, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems from schematic design through construction documents.
- Develop practical, code-compliant, and constructible engineering solutions while balancing project budget, schedule, and client objectives through sound engineering judgment.
- Perform electrical engineering calculations including load calculations, short circuit analysis, voltage drop, and other system analyses as required.
- Ensure designs comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC), applicable building codes, energy codes, and project-specific standards.
- Coordinate electrical system design with in-house Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, and Plumbing teams to deliver fully integrated project solutions.
- Serve as the electrical engineering lead on assigned projects, managing electrical deliverables and coordinating with internal team members throughout the design process.
- Review shop drawings, product submittals, and Requests for Information (RFIs), providing timely technical responses and recommendations.
- Participate in interdisciplinary coordination meetings, design reviews, and client meetings as needed.
- Coordinate with contractors, consultants, utility providers, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) throughout design and construction.
- Conduct site observations and provide construction administration support to verify installation aligns with design intent.
- Perform quality control reviews of electrical drawings, specifications, and calculations to maintain high standards of accuracy and consistency.
- Mentor junior engineers and designers by providing technical guidance, design support, and constructive feedback.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- 5 years of experience designing electrical systems for commercial, retail, industrial, institutional, or similar building projects.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license; Engineer-in-Training (EIT) candidates with a clear path toward licensure will also be considered.
- Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), applicable building codes, and industry standards.
- Experience preparing construction documents, engineering calculations, and technical specifications.
- Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and electrical design software such as SKM, EasyPower, ETAP, AGi32, Visual Lighting
- Ability to independently manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting deadlines.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound engineering judgment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams, clients, and contractors.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary building projects through all phases of design and construction.
- Experience mentoring junior staff or serving as a technical resource within an engineering team.
- Familiarity with sustainable design principles, energy-efficient building systems, and applicable energy codes.
