Job Posting Summary:
Ensworth is a kindergarten through twelfth grade independent, coeducational school that fields 20 TSSAA Varsity sports and multiple JV sports, in addition to Cheer, Mountain Biking, Swimming & Diving, and Ice Hockey. The School is seeking a Fitness Instructor who will uphold the Ensworth vision statement of “a school community dedicated to following the highest principles with the greatest love, as characterized by moral integrity, intellectual vitality, discipline, compassion, humor, and joy”. Ensworth’s High School Fitness Program utilizes a 10,000 square foot fitness center, five basketball courts, a 3,000 square foot padded room, and a Natatorium with a 50-meter competition pool and a heated instructional pool. High School students participate in a specific fitness program based on their individual needs. The fitness program is committed to graduating physically fit students with the knowledge and experience to continue a healthy lifestyle. Ensworth seeks Fitness Instructors from health-related fields with a working knowledge of exercise physiology and a desire to encourage high school students to be physically fit. Coaching experience with sports teams is desirable, but not mandatory.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Abides by Ensworth’s Employee Handbook and Code of Conduct
- Commits to the ideals expressed in Ensworth’s Mission Statement, Vision Statement, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement
- Adheres to the Essential Expectations of an Ensworth Faculty, Staff, or Administrator
- Assist in developing weekly lesson plans as well as semester program plans
- Assist in the development of fitness programs
- Assist with coaching after school workouts if not coaching a sport
- Assist with nutritional education plans
- Assist with equipment maintenance
- Assist with Fitness Center organization and aesthetics
- Participate in Fitness staff meetings
- Student advisor
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree is required, Master’s Degree is preferred
- Strength and Conditioning certification is preferred, but not required
- Prior experience as a Strength and Conditioning Coach is required
- Experience in coaching Olympic Weightlifting is desired
- Basic/Intermediate/Advanced understanding and ability to use computers and technology, including (e.g., Microsoft Windows and Office products, basic office equipment, projectors, mechanical equipment, etc.)
- Well-developed interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with all constituents in a school environment, including students, co-workers, parents, alumni, volunteers, and the public.
- Adaptability, honesty, self-reliance, teamwork, dependability, flexibility, willingness to listen and learn, work ethic, determination, persistence, problem-solving skills, loyalty, and congeniality are essential.
- Must successfully complete background screening and verification
- Continued Education Programs (as required by Grade Level and/or position) – Periodically participate in different training sessions identified by you, the employee and/or Divisional Leadership/Supervisor with the goal of keeping our teachers and staff up to date with current teaching methods, practices and any new knowledge in their respective field. Dependent on the program, such training may need to take place outside of normal working hours and/or in the summer months.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Regularly works in standard office or classroom conditions and environment, frequently works outdoors in varying weather conditions and climate, on feet 6-8 hours a day.
- Must be able to observe students from various distances
- Frequently required to move around the fitness center and campus, work at a desk for extended periods of time, set up exercise equipment, agility stations, etc.
- Ability to frequently move weights and demonstrate weightlifting technique
- Must be able to occasionally work in a stressful environment, effectively deal with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts, and maintain stamina to provide attention to detail despite interruptions
- Ability to frequently work flexible hours to support after-school or weekend events
- Ensworth requires employees to be physically present on campus, with limited exceptions that are at the sole discretion of the School. Under extraordinary circumstances, some or all of the workforce may be required to move to a remote working environment. Additionally, certain individuals may also be approved for limited remote work, based on the nature of the job description, specific circumstances, and only with written prior approval by a direct supervisor.
