Ensolum, LLC (Ensolum) is seeking a Senior Industrial Hygienist / Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) to support projects in the Greater Baton Rouge, Louisiana and surrounding areas.
The Senior Industrial Hygienist / CIH will lead a variety of industrial hygiene and environmental projects, with a primary focus on clients in the petrochemical, refining, chemical manufacturing, and related industrial sectors. Responsibilities may include personal exposure monitoring, industrial hygiene surveys, exposure assessments, air monitoring, asbestos and lead assessments, indoor air quality investigations, water damage and mold assessments, and other occupational health and exposure assessment activities.
The successful candidate will be a technically strong, team-oriented professional with demonstrated experience in industrial hygiene and occupational health who is capable of independently planning, managing, and executing projects in a variety of industrial environments. The Senior Industrial Hygienist / CIH will work closely with Ensolum Industrial Hygienists, Project Managers, Principals, technicians, and clients to successfully execute field activities, develop technical recommendations, and complete high-quality project deliverables.
The Senior Industrial Hygienist / CIH will be expected to exercise professional judgment in the development of sampling strategies, exposure assessments, and technical recommendations, while providing technical direction and mentorship to less-experienced personnel.
Strong communication, technical, and organizational skills are essential, as is the ability to perform hands-on fieldwork safely and effectively. The position will involve field work at industrial facilities throughout Louisiana and the Gulf Coast, along with office-based project management, data evaluation, technical report preparation, and client support responsibilities.
Job Requirements & Responsibilities
- Lead and independently execute industrial hygiene projects from planning through completion.
- Develop project-specific sampling strategies, exposure assessment approaches, and field plans based on client needs and identified workplace hazards.
- Conduct and oversee personal and area air monitoring, industrial hygiene surveys, exposure assessments, and other field activities.
- Set up, operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain industrial hygiene sampling and monitoring equipment.
- Collect, document, and properly handle air, surface, bulk, and other environmental samples.
- Evaluate exposure monitoring and industrial hygiene data and develop technically sound conclusions and recommendations.
- Maintain accurate field notes, sampling records, chain-of-custody documentation, and other project records.
- Prepare and review technical reports, tables, figures, sampling plans, and other project deliverables.
- Provide technical direction, mentoring, and oversight to Industrial Hygiene Technicians and less-experienced Industrial Hygienists.
- Coordinate with Project Managers and Principals regarding project scope, schedule, budget, technical approach, and client needs.
- Communicate effectively with clients regarding project requirements, field activities, findings, and technical recommendations.
- Work safely and effectively within active petrochemical, refining, chemical manufacturing, and other industrial facilities.
- Apply established sampling protocols, standard operating procedures, professional judgment, and applicable regulatory requirements to project activities.
- Maintain and develop positive relationships with clients, coworkers, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Assist with development of proposals, scopes of work, cost estimates, and other business development activities as appropriate.
- Support identification of additional client needs and opportunities for expanded industrial hygiene and occupational health services.
- Maintain equipment and ensure sampling supplies are properly inventoried and prepared for field activities.
- Travel throughout Louisiana and the Gulf Coast region as needed to support project requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Toxicology, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- 3 years of relevant professional industrial hygiene experience
- In possession of (or, actively pursuing) the CIH certification.
- Demonstrated experience independently planning and executing industrial hygiene assessments and exposure monitoring.
- Strong technical knowledge of industrial hygiene principles, exposure assessment strategies, sampling methodologies, and applicable occupational exposure limits.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document, evaluate, and communicate technical information.
- Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills.
- Ability to independently manage field activities and project responsibilities while effectively coordinating with project personnel and clients.
- Ability to work safely in industrial environments and comply with client and Ensolum safety requirements.
- Ability to effectively communicate with coworkers, clients, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Legally authorized to work full-time in the United States.
- Transportation Worker Identification Credential (or, ability to acquire the credential)
- Ability to successfully complete required drug and alcohol screening and, where applicable, background and driving record screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Industrial Hygienist
- IH project management experience
- Experience working in petrochemical, refining, chemical manufacturing, oil and gas, or other heavy industrial environments.
- Experience with IH program development, audits, and occupational health and safety consulting.
- Experience developing exposure assessment strategies and interpreting industrial hygiene monitoring results.
- Experience with asbestos, lead-based paint, indoor air quality, mold, or other environmental health assessments.
- 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
- Louisiana Asbestos Inspector or other applicable asbestos credentials.
- OSHA 10- and/or 30-hour General Industry or Construction training.
- Familiarity with applicable OSHA, EPA, LDEQ, and other federal and Louisiana regulatory requirements.
- Familiarity with the Greater Baton Rouge industrial corridor and Louisiana's petrochemical industry.
