Role Description
This is a part-time position (remote or on-site (preferred)) for a Tax Preparer for a firm based in Greenwood, IN, with growth potential if desired in 2027. The Tax Preparer will prepare accurate and compliant individual (1040 and all related Schedules), trust (1041), and small-business tax returns (1120S, 1065) while maintaining the highest standards of quality and confidentiality. Responsibilities include analyzing financial data, identifying tax issues and opportunities, preparing supporting workpapers, and ensuring adherence to all federal and state tax regulations.
The role also includes contributing to strategic tax planning, assisting with financial statement review, staying current with evolving tax laws, and supporting clients with clear, professional communication. The ideal candidate delivers exceptional client service, works efficiently within our established workflows, and upholds the firm's security and compliance protocols.
Role Qualifications
Technical Expertise
- Advanced proficiency in UltraTax CS (must demonstrate workflow competency prior to hire)
- Proficiency operating in the Onvio Secure Client Center is preferred
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience preparing individual, trust, and small-business returns
- Strong applied understanding of federal and state tax law, including current-year updates
- Ability to accurately analyze financial statements and translate data into compliant tax positions
- Demonstrated ability to identify issues, propose adjustments, and escalate complex tax scenarios appropriately
Professional Skills
- Exceptionally detail-oriented, with a proven record of accuracy and clean workpapers
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple returns simultaneously
- Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills for client interactions and internal documentation
- Ability to work independently while adhering to firm standards and security protocols
Education & Credentials
- EA or CPA required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- Active PTIN required on or before start date
Technology & Security
- Comfort working within a cloud-based tax and accounting environment (UltraTax, Onvio, QBO, secure portals)
- Demonstrated understanding of data confidentiality, WISP compliance, and secure handling of client information
