Job Summary
We are seeking a Vision & Controls Engineer to join our team at our Attleboro, MA site.
This role will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, improving, and supporting vision systems, automation controls, manufacturing equipment, utilities, and facility infrastructure across production and non-production areas.
Main Responsibilities
- Create electrical schematics, HMI and PLC programs as well as PC based software programs to support manufacturing.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, controls, PLC, HMI, servo drive, sensor, and motor-related issues affecting production equipment.
- Maintain backup programs, software, and hardware configurations for critical manufacturing equipment.
- Support equipment reliability initiatives through root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Assist maintenance personnel with controls-related troubleshooting, repairs, and equipment upgrades.
- Develop, maintain, optimize, and troubleshoot automated optical inspection (AOI) and machine vision systems.
- Configure inspection parameters, camera settings, image processing tools, and defect detection criteria to meet production and quality requirements.
- Support product introductions through vision program development and recipe creation.
- Analyze inspection performance and implement improvements to maximize defect detection and minimize false rejects.
- Troubleshoot and repair motors, drives, relays, temperature transmitters, sensors and associated automation hardware.
- Manage spare parts identification, procurement support, and critical inventory requirements for controls and automation components.
- Coordinate equipment recovery efforts to minimize production downtime.
- Develop and execute maintenance plans for automation and vision systems.
- Schedule replacement of critical wear components including chains, sprockets, sensors, relays, and associated controls hardware.
- Monitor equipment performance and recommend upgrades or replacement strategies for obsolete systems.
- Design, build and wire electrical panels and specify components to be used in electrical panels.
- Lead and support automation, controls, building management BMS, and manufacturing improvement projects.
- Design and implement process visibility solutions, machine connectivity, industrial networking, and production data collection systems.
- Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, Process Engineering, and IT departments on strategic initiatives.
- Provide technical recommendations regarding equipment upgrades, replacements, and capacity expansion projects.
- Provide technical support for wastewater treatment systems, tank farms, pumps, valves, sensors, and related infrastructure.
- Support building management systems (BMS) and facility automation projects.
- Assist with troubleshooting and maintenance of facility equipment as required.
- Provide training, documentation, and knowledge transfer regarding automation and vision systems.
- Support commissioning, validation, and startup activities for new equipment and processes.
- Follow all International Standards that apply to company certifications and QMS.
- Follow Company Safety rules and wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical discipline.
Experience
- Experience with industrial automation, PLC programming, machine vision systems Specifically, Keyence and Cognex Vision Systems, manufacturing equipment, and troubleshooting in a production environment with at least 3 years of experience required.
- Experience with servo controls, electrical systems, industrial networking, and process equipment preferred.
