Senior Pavement and Geotechnical Engineer
Engineering and Research International, Inc. (ERI) is seeking an experienced pavement or transportation engineer to join our growing engineering practice. This is a high-impact opportunity for a senior professional ready to move beyond traditional technical project work and contribute to ERI's continued growth.
In this role, you'll take ownership of pavement, geotechnical, and material testing projects from concept through delivery, balancing technical excellence with effective project management, team collaboration, and client engagement. You'll work in a supportive, employee-focused environment that values innovation, flexibility, professional development, and opportunities for career advancement.
At ERI, this role offers more than the next engineering position. You'll work directly with company leadership, influence how our engineering practice and business develop, and progressively assume broader leadership responsibilities. As you establish yourself within ERI, you'll have opportunities to strengthen client relationships, contribute to business development, and help shape the company's engineering operations and geographic expansion.
Responsibilities

· Oversee project scope, schedules, budgets, staffing, technical approaches, and quality to ensure successful project execution and client satisfaction.
· Provide technical leadership in pavement condition and performance assessments, structural and functional evaluations, pavement design, and maintenance and rehabilitation recommendations.
· Coordinate and guide multidisciplinary teams of engineers, field technicians, GIS/data specialists, and subconsultants to achieve project objectives.
· Prepare and review technical reports, engineering analyses, project deliverables, and recommendations; conduct QA/QC reviews and resolve technical challenges to maintain compliance with applicable standards.
· Build and maintain strong relationships with transportation agencies, municipalities, counties, airports, and other infrastructure clients to support long-term partnerships.
· Lead and contribute to proposal development, scopes of work, fee estimates, client presentations, and business-development activities to secure new and repeat business.
· Mentor and support engineering and technical staff while fostering a collaborative, accountable, and professional work environment.
· Collaborate with ERI leadership on project planning, resource management, operational improvements, and strategic initiatives, assuming broader responsibilities as you grow into the role.
· Support ERI's expansion into new markets and geographic areas through client engagement, industry participation, strategic partnerships, and occasional travel, with opportunities to contribute to future regional or branch-office development.
· Perform other job duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
· Master's degree(s) in pavements, materials, or geotechnical engineering is a plus
· Professional Engineer (PE) license; Illinois licensure or ability to obtain Illinois licensure by comity is preferred.
· Approximately 8 years of progressively responsible pavement, transportation, or civil engineering experience, preferably in consulting.
· Professional experience with DOTs or other public highway agencies preferred
· Demonstrated project-management experience with responsibility for scope, schedule, budget, staffing, quality, and client communication.
· Strong pavement-engineering, pavement management/evaluation, preservation and rehabilitation, flexible and/or rigid pavement design, pavement design software, pavement condition/performance analysis, transportation asset management fundamentals, geotechnical investigations, construction inspections, and demonstrated ability to lead multiple projects/assignments and multidisciplinary project teams.
· Experience with relevant pavement technologies is highly desirable, including automated condition data collection/imaging, FWD, GPR, inertial profiling, friction testing, pavement-management platforms, GIS, databases, and engineering data analytics.
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
· Excellent written, verbal, technical-reporting, presentation, and client-relationship skills.
· Willingness to travel for projects, client engagement, industry activities, business development, and company-growth initiatives.
· Valid driver's license with clean driving history
