POSITION SUMMARY
Position: Kitting & Welding Support Specialist
Reports to: Operations Manager
Location: Greenville, SC
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Kitting & Welding Support Specialist is responsible for preparing, organizing, and staging materials and parts for the welding department to ensure welders have the correct components at the right time. This role supports continuous production flow, interacts with fabrication, inventory, and production teams, and ensures adherence to safety and quality standards. The Specialist will coordinate material movement, maintain accurate inventory records, and assist with process improvements in a manufacturing environment.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Pull and assemble parts, materials, and subcomponents to create welding kits according to production schedules or Bills of Materials (BOM).
  • Stage and deliver completed kits to welding floor or designated drop zones, ensuring timely availability for weld operators and fabrication teams.
  • Safely operate forklifts and material handling equipment to transport materials, components, and finished kits.
  • Enter and update kit creation, material movements, and inventory transactions in the ERP or warehouse management system.
  • Verify BOM accuracy, part counts, and kit documentation; communicate and resolve discrepancies with supervisors.
  • Participate in lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives to optimize workflow and reduce errors.
  • Follow all safety protocols and maintain organized, clean work areas.
  • Collaborate with production, inventory, and engineering teams to support operational efficiency and meet production targets.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, BOMs, and production documentation.
  • Proficiency with inventory management systems or ERP, including scanning/RF technology.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure kit accuracy.
  • Ability to lift and handle up to 50 lbs and operate material handling equipment safely.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills for cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Familiarity with welding processes and materials preferred, including MIG and TIG operations.
  • Ability to work under production schedules and meet deadlines consistently.
EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING
  • High School Diploma or GED required; technical diploma or manufacturing certification preferred.
  • Previous experience in kitting, material handling, or production support, preferably in a welding or metal fabrication environment.
  • Forklift operator certification or ability to obtain within the first 30 days.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, or continuous improvement practices is a plus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This role is primarily on the production floor with exposure to welding operations, machinery, and noise, combined with office work for data entry, kit documentation, and reporting. Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, steel-toed boots, gloves, and hearing protection is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position involves both desk-based work and time spent in an industrial manufacturing environment. Tasks include walking, standing, lifting materials up to 50 lbs, operating forklifts, and maneuvering equipment safely. Manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina are required to support continuous production needs.
