Position Title: Production Lead (Whip Line)
Reports To: Operations/ Production Supervisor
Exempt / Non-Exempt: Hourly Non-Exempt
Labor Code: 597 – MN, 594 - IA
POSITION: | The Production Lead is responsible for executing the daily production line activities and maintaining smooth production flows while safely producing a high-quality product in the most efficient way possible. This position will serve as a key point of contact for assemblers and be responsible for gathering and communicating relevant information within the production environment. The Production Lead will be responsible for training new employees. This position will support expediting jobs and communicating with the inventory team as needed. This person may be required to perform additional or different responsibilities from those set forth below. This position is also responsible for the general assembly of fixture whips, AC whips, and various production line assemblies. Individuals in this position must follow established standard procedures and work instructions for assembly. Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position. |
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
This position is responsible for the following essential duties-
- This position is a working lead responsible for participating in the various jobs and daily work being performed in the assigned production areas.
- This position requires the ability to learn and enforce the department rules, duties of each production position, and established company policies and procedures (dress code, break times, etc.).
- Responsible for training and guiding employees (new hires and existing) on safety protocol and standard operating guidelines, safe machine and equipment use, and job duty requirements within the division’s production areas and work cells.
- Requires the ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism, respect, and courteousness toward all team members. Consistently demonstrates a positive attitude and a good work ethic.
- Responsible for assisting with resolving work problems.
- Under the direction of the supervisor, this position is responsible for communicating company goals and objectives to team members and assisting employees in various job duties to complete the assigned work orders daily.
- Responsible for monitoring hourly production activities on each line to ensure productivity expectations are met.
- Responsible for creating and closing work orders as needed.
- The lead is responsible for working with the supervisor to ensure production schedules flow as planned.
- The production lead is responsible for maintaining continuous improvement and 6S, including facility housekeeping.
- Accurately assembling and packaging items based on instructions and information given on work orders that may include:
- Assembling connectors on conduit,
- Inserting wires in conduit in accordance with the specified color codes,
- Placing UL labels on conduit,
- Tying off wire leads at the end of conduit whips using designated equipment and machines.
- Locating required materials in the work area for each job and ordering any materials that are not available in the work area.
- Lifting and loading conduit bundles on and off an assembly table
- Loading and unloading racks of wire (35 lbs.)
- Operating Wire Feeder, Pak Tyer, and other assembly machines and equipment.
- Accurately operating a computer and printer to complete daily tasks.
- Maintaining safety standards and personal protective equipment.
- Maintaining a clean working environment by cleaning the entire work area at the end of each shift.
- Working well and assisting other team members in the area and other work cells to meet production needs.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Experience or the ability to develop skills to effectively use the company’s ERP system and all Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Knowledgeable of material handling, identification, and product traceability throughout the manufacturing sequence.
- Assist in creating or updating process documents.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing and shipping processes, quality standards, and tooling.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Working lead and trainer responsibilities for the Engineered Products production staff.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires dexterity in both hands to complete the essential job functions.
- Requires the ability to lift conduit bundles of 10 (20 lbs.) into barrels.
- Requires the ability to load and unload racks of wire and conduit bundles (20-35 lbs.).
- Requires the ability to stand at a workstation while completing assembly duties for 6-8 hours each day.
- Requires the ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 40 lbs. on a regular basis. All heavier lifts required assistance from an individual or lift-assist equipment.
- Requires the ability to walk to various areas in the warehouse throughout the day – distances will vary.
- Requires the ability to stoop, bend, and kneel as needed throughout the day on a consistent basis.
- Requires the ability to see small print on work orders and labels.
- Requires the ability to see and identify colors associated with products and raw materials.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Requires general assembly skills with 3-6 months of previous experience in a similar
role.
- (36) months of previous experience working in production and manufacturing.
- (24) months of previous leadership skills that include training (production floor line lead, etc.) is strongly preferred.
- Lean Manufacturing experience – or the ability and desire to complete the training course and certification process is preferred. (e.g., Green Belt)
- (6) months of previous experience working in a warehouse environment, inventory planning, production planning, order-expediting, or similar positions.
- Entry-level to intermediate skills and ability to improve these skills through training in Microsoft Office-based programs, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
All position requires the ability to work well with more than one department and individuals in various roles and work well independently to complete the essential functions required.
- WAREHOUSE AND PRODUCTION POSITIONS:
- Warehouse and production positions are required to focus on safety as a key priority during the entire workday. Safety procedures must be followed, and safety concerns must be reported. All employees are responsible for making safety their responsibility.
- Work will be performed in a warehouse/plant-type environment where temperatures may fluctuate.
- Responsibilities may require the performance of duties outside the warehouse, but exposure to severe weather and extreme conditions will be minimal.
- Must be able to work in a team environment and perform duties that may require more than one employee’s participation to complete the task.
- Required to work well independently and with minimal supervision.
OTHER:
- Regular and consistent attendance is required.
