PHYSICAL MATERIALS TESTER / LAB TECHNICIAN
The EBS Physical Materials Tester provides adhesives materials testing results for internal and external requirements. This position supports R&D, product development, manufacturing and technical service as needed through materials testing. The Materials Tester / Lab Tech is also responsible for the execution of testing and drafting written reports to convey test results in a thorough manner. The position requires previous experience with Instron or equivalent Frank Bacon SSTM-20kN Tension and Compression Testing Machine. The position reports to the Director of Technology. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday 8A - 5P.
Primary Responsibilities include:
· Making and preparing bonding specimens according to various ASTM methods used for adhesive applications
· Operate the lab with ethics and integrity according to EBS’s Quality Management System (QMS), policies and procedures.
· Serve as point of first contact for materials testing.
· Determine material testing requirements and provide time estimates for completion of tests.
· Perform materials testing according to industry and customer standards.
· Supervise, prepare and check technical accuracy of test reports.
· Communicate with customers and employees to meet customer’s needs
· Communicate testing reports and status with internal personnel and customers
· Testing and reporting must be accurate and timely. Notify appropriate people of any delays.
· Be prepared for internal and external ISO audits of the lab including its processes, procedures and documentation.
· Organize and update the lab procedures and documentation.
· Review and implement formal test methods from outside sources (ASTM, ISO, etc.)
· Maintain, as needed, archives of old revisions and / or obsolete documents.
· Ensure controlled distribution of documentation that is approved by authorized personnel.
· Schedule and maintain calibrations and records for all lab and shop equipment and instrumentation. (Scales, measuring, gauges, etc)
· Direct / manage implementation of an effective lab document control system, thus ensuring integrity of all tasks,
· Direct / manage the collection, indexing, filing and accessing of Lab Quality System (ISO) documentation in a way that ensures ready retrieval upon demand by System users.
· Ensure proper disposition and archival of obsolete / superseded documentation / data.
· Manage the maintenance of current / up-to-date revision levels of Lab Quality System documents.
· Maintain a master list (or equivalent) of Lab Quality System documentation, identifying current version of each document.
· Ensure retention of customer samples, documentation and customer information for prescribed periods of time per customer and / or company requirements
· Make detailed plans to accomplish goals.
· Confer with higher levels of management based on needs.
· Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Competencies
· One to two years previous experience with ASTM testing for adhesive bonded specimens, tensile, lap shear properties, ASTM D1002 metals, ASTM D5868 plastics and composites, tensile properties ASTM D638, compressive strength, T-peel and other tests as needed.
· Hands-on experience in adhesives bonding / fixturing.
· Able to develop customer derived testing or specific ASTM methods based on customer needs
Job Requirements include but are not limited to:
· Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or technical field, or equivalent experience.
· At least one – two years of experience operating physical testing equipment and software on Instron or equivalent machine
· Must be authorized to work in the United States (E-Verify required)
Salary range is $40k to $70k based on experience and knowledge.
