Your Mission

As a Staff Mobile Engineer at Engine, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of our mobile experience. You'll combine deep technical expertise with strategic leadership—driving architecture, elevating standards, and mentoring engineers to deliver exceptional, high-performing mobile products.

This role sits at the heart of our design-led mobile team, focused on rebuilding the core travel flows to deliver a unified, mobile-first experience. You'll collaborate closely with the platform team, building on their foundation while redefining the mobile travel experience. Using React Native (with the flexibility to integrate native iOS/Android controls where needed), you'll help seed the team, shape its technical direction, and ensure consistency and quality as Engine's mobile experience evolves.

Here's what you'll take charge of:

• Architect and Implement: Lead the design and development of high-impact mobile features. Define scalable architecture, improve performance, and ensure reliability across iOS and Android.
• Drive Technical Excellence: Own long-term technical decisions and implement best practices for testing, CI/CD, and mobile performance.
• Mentor and Elevate: Provide technical guidance and mentorship across teams, reviewing designs, sharing best practices, and developing future mobile leaders.
• Collaborate and Influence: Partner with Product, Design, and Backend teams to shape roadmaps, balance trade-offs, and ensure a cohesive mobile strategy.
• Bridge Native and Cross-Platform: Leverage native iOS/Android expertise to resolve advanced platform issues, integrate custom modules, and deliver a first-class experience.
  
  

What You'll Bring to Engine

• Experience: 8 years building and scaling mobile applications, with substantial hands-on work in React Native or native development.
• Technical Expertise: Proficiency in React Native and TypeScript, mobile architecture, performance tuning, and native module integration.
• Leadership: Proven track record of leading initiatives, shaping architecture, and mentoring engineers through influence and collaboration.
• Mindset: Pragmatic yet ambitious, system-oriented, and motivated by solving complex challenges. You lead by example, elevate those around you, and care deeply about exceptional mobile experiences.

Compensation

Our compensation packages are based on several factors, including your experience, expertise, and location. In addition to a competitive base salary, total compensation may include equity and/or variable pay (OTE). Your recruiter will share your complete compensation package as you move through the process.

Base Pay Range

$148,200—$205,000 USD
