As an Electrical & Instrument Technician II, you'll play a hands-on role in maintaining the systems that keep our Iowa City power plant operating safely and reliably. Working across electrical, instrumentation, mechanical, and process control systems, you'll perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot equipment issues, support repairs, and contribute to the continuous operation of a critical energy facility.

In this role, you'll work on a variety of equipment and technologies, including electrical systems up to 480V, instrumentation and calibration devices, emissions monitoring equipment, motors, pneumatic systems, and plant control components. You'll collaborate closely with experienced technicians and operations personnel to identify issues, improve equipment performance, and support plant reliability.

You'll also gain exposure to a wide range of industrial maintenance activities, from instrumentation tubing and calibration work to electrical troubleshooting and equipment repairs, while building deep knowledge of plant systems and processes through hands-on experience and training.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on electrical, instrumentation, pneumatic, and mechanical equipment supporting plant operations
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues, diagnose failures, and complete repairs to maintain safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance
  • Inspect, test, calibrate, tune, repair, and maintain electrical and instrumentation systems, including process control devices, analyzers, sensors, transmitters, motors, relays, breakers, MCCs, and associated equipment
  • Support operation and maintenance of the plant's emissions monitoring systems and related instrumentation
  • Install and maintain electrical conduit, wiring, tubing, and associated plant equipment in accordance with safety, environmental, and operational requirements
  • Conduct condition monitoring and predictive maintenance activities, including equipment inspections, thermography, vibration analysis, and other diagnostic testing as assigned
  • Use the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to document work performed, complete work orders, and maintain maintenance records
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, availability, and performance, and recommend maintenance or operational enhancements
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering, contractors, and vendors to resolve equipment issues and support plant objectives
  • Apply safe work practices and maintain attention to detail while working in a dynamic industrial environment where equipment reliability and operational readiness are critical

What You’ll Bring

  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED required; technical, vocational, military, or instrumentation training is valued
  • Minimum of two (2) years of hands-on experience maintaining, troubleshooting, or repairing electrical, instrumentation, pneumatic, mechanical, or industrial systems. Technical, vocational, apprenticeship, military, or instrumentation training is considered an asset
  • Experience troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing electrical and instrumentation systems in power generation, manufacturing, utility, military, or other industrial environments
  • Working knowledge of electrical equipment, process instrumentation, calibration activities, and preventive maintenance practices
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, blueprints, schematics, and maintenance documentation
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and documenting maintenance and repair activities
  • A collaborative, safety-focused approach with a willingness to learn plant-specific systems, equipment, and processes
  • Experience supporting boiler, steam, turbine, or other industrial process equipment is helpful
  • Exposure to emissions monitoring systems, journeyman-level electrical training, or industrial process environments involving hydraulic, pneumatic, and steam systems is a plus

Additional Details

  • This role requires attendance at the Iowa City worksite on a daily basis
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record; to drive company vehicles while performing work across campus locations
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
  • Must be physically capable to hear and understand audible alarms, detect changes in noise levels of equipment and portable radio communication
  • Capable of frequently standing; walking; balancing; sitting; climbing (ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks and the like as required); kneeling; pushing; pulling; lifting (min. 50 lbs)
  • Capable of performing repetitive motions as required
  • Required to have eyesight corrected at 20/40 to accurately read and interpret such as but not limited to instruments, gauges, and manuals
  • Must be physically capable of wearing protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to half and full-face respirators, fall protection equipment, hardhat, safety shoes, safety glasses
  • Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday; participation in an on-call rotation is required to support plant operations
  • Responsible for supporting ENGIE's safety and environmental programs, including conducting and documenting pre-job hazard assessments and following established safety procedures
  • Ability to communicate effectively, manage multiple priorities, and accurately document maintenance activities and work orders
  • Comfortable using computers, maintenance management systems, and standard software applications to support daily work
  • Work is performed in an industrial power generation environment that is primarily indoors with occasional outdoor exposure and may include heat, dust, elevated noise levels, moving equipment, and changing weather conditions

Compensation

Hourly Range: $33.41 - $51.19 USD hourly

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
