We are seeking an experienced Soil Lab Technician with 1 to 2 years of related work; we will consider an entry-level candidate. On-the-job training is available for the right candidate.
Primary Responsibilities
- Performs soil and concrete laboratory tests, such as compaction curves, moisture/density, gradation, triaxial, and some concrete compression testing.
- Effectively communicates test results to office staff, field personnel, and clients.
- Assists professional staff in supplying and maintaining field equipment.
- Assists professional staff in materials storage and disposal.
- Prepares lab documents.
- Picks up soil and concrete samples from various project sites.
- Must have a good driving record and be drug free
- Be able to stand for long periods of time
- Be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform intermittent strenuous activity
- Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook computer applications.
- Willing to acquire and maintain laboratory certifications and be able to follow proper procedures
- Able to perform accurate computations
- Have clear and concise verbal/written communication and computer skills
- Proactive problem solver
- Proven track record of dependability, keen attention to detail, and well-developed interpersonal skills.
- Must communicate and collaborate effectively with clients, subcontractors, city agents, and project managers - locally and in other regional offices- and internal support staff.
- Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic, and diverse environment.
- Can work and succeed as a team also while being resourceful if working alone in the lab.
- Enjoy learning and sharing knowledge with others for the success of the company.
- Must have a good understanding of the construction industry.
Education:
- High School Diploma
- Some college or bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject matter (Soil, Earth Sciences, Geology, or Civil Engineering)?
- 1-2 years’ experience working in a materials testing laboratory
