Job Summary:
The Quality Manager develops, implements, and directs IEA’s ISO and Quality programs and initiatives at the Kenosha facility. The Quality Manager receives broad direction from the COO, develops work plans on both a short- and long-term basis, and resolves most problems independently. Is the final authority within the Company to stop the acceptance, manufacture or shipment of nonconforming material, components, or final products.
The Quality Manager also serves as IEA’s ISO Quality Management Representative. In this capacity, functions as top management’s liaison with the rest of the organization, dealing with every level and area of the Company to ensure conformity by all employees and suppliers with ISO requirements.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Manages subordinate leads who supervise employees in the Quality Control/Technical and Service & Warranty. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Also directly supervises non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, with other duties assigned as necessary:
- Leads the Company’s ISO and Quality programs including, but not limited to supplier quality and certification, material and product traceability, internal quality audit, process control, internal corrective action, and document control.
- Leads customer-required Quality programs.
- Develops, implements, and coordinates Quality training programs for employees.
- Coordinates Quality Division activities with other functions.
- Advises Production, Sales, Materials, and Engineering Division staff regarding quality issues.
- Maintains all Quality documents and serves as the Quality Division records retention manager.
- Prepares and presents IEA’s Quality Objectives to management, employees, and suppliers.
- Functions as the Company’s Quality system liaison with customers, suppliers, and others.
- Plans and conducts the analysis, inspection, design, test, and/or integration to assure the quality of assigned product or component.
- Performs quality engineering reviews of design documentation for compliance with stated requirements, including vendor quality manuals and company quality records.
- Applies statistical process control (SPC) methods for analyzing data to evaluate the current process and process changes.
- Reviews all purchased products or components and provides input to the decision of whether to accept the product and future purchases from the vendor.
- Documents data obtained during all quality assurance activities, consistent with company policies and procedures.
- Develops new approaches to solve problems identified during quality assurance activities.
- Communicates significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and provides recommended process improvements to management.
- Prepares reports to communicate involvement and results of quality assurance activities.
- Prepares and presents technical and program information to team members and management.
- Directs technical and administrative workers engaged in quality assurance activities.
- Maintains a working knowledge of government and industry quality assurance codes and standards.
- Develops and initiates standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation.
- Devises sampling procedures and designs and develops forms and instructions for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality and reliability data.
- Establishes program to evaluate precision and accuracy of production equipment and testing, measurement, and analytical equipment and facilities.
- Develops and implements methods and procedures for disposition of discrepant material, and devises methods to assess cost and responsibility.
- Directs workers engaged in measuring and testing product and tabulating data concerning materials, product, or process quality and reliability.
- Interfaces with procurement, engineering, manufacturing, customer, or vendors to coordinate and resolve quality-related problems.
- Provides computerized status report describing progress and concerns related to inspection activities, nonconforming items, and/or other items related to the quality of the process, material, or product.
- Compiles and writes training material and conducts training sessions on quality control activities.
- Ensures that all Quality employees are aware of and follow safety work practices at all times.
- Oversees hiring, training, development, appraisal, and work scheduling of production employees.
- Ensures that all assigned areas and equipment are properly maintained in accordance with 6S protocol
- Establishes and maintains department budgets.

As the ISO Quality Management Representative:
- Oversees the development, implementation and continued use of QMS (Quality Management System) processes throughout the Company.
- Reports to IEA Senior Management and/or ownership on QMS performance.
- Promotes Quality initiatives including awareness of customer requirements to all staff.
- Coordinates and conducts IEA Management Review Meetings on behalf of the President.
- Schedules internal Quality audits of all IEA functional units and personnel.
- Facilitates employee team-building activities through Quality.
- Manages the 3rd party ISO registration process.
Physical Demands:

- Maintaining physical condition necessary for the following: Frequent standing, walking, or sitting; infrequent kneeling, crouching, stooping, squatting, twisting upper body, or climbing.

- Travel: Domestic and international travel—1-5 days, 5-15 days (rarely).
Work Environment:
- Work location(s): Office; metal fabrication/assembly shop; field visits to customer/supplier sites including domestic/international travel.
- Exposure to: Fumes, airborne particles, wet/humid (non-weather) conditions, toxic/caustic chemicals, moving mechanical parts/equipment, inclement weather conditions when in shop areas.
- Personal protective equipment requirement: Safety glasses when in shop areas. Additional equipment as per job site/length of stay requirements
Key skills, abilities, and knowledge:
- Extensive knowledge of quality practices and procedures including metrics and statistical analyses.

- Knowledge of heat transfer theory and radiator assembly and construction desired.
- Working knowledge of operating parameters of Company products and related equipment desired.
- Working knowledge of lean manufacturing concepts preferable.
- Ability to read, understand and interpret field documents, shop drawings and blueprints.
- Ability to use various measuring tools including caliper, tape, micrometer, CMM.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and the ability to follow safe work practices.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
- Experiential: Five or more years of quality management experience in a manufacturing environment, including maintenance and implementation of ISO 9001 and updates thereof.
- Education and Credentialing: Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing Management, Industrial Technology, Engineering or a related field, Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt desirable. Bilingual (Spanish) is desirable. An MBA is desirable. Experience may be considered in lieu of Education.
- Licenses, etc.: Driver’s license; passport (for foreign travel as necessary).
