Key Responsibilities
Estimating and Costing
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and analyze drawings/specifications to prepare accurate cost estimates and proposals across commercial, industrial, institutional, and related markets.
- Develop project-specific schedules, price general conditions, and support bid reviews to ensure competitive, complete, and compliant submissions.
- Identify cost efficiencies and value engineering opportunities that support client goals while upholding Engelke’s standards of quality and commitment.
- Research and pursue new business opportunities with target clients including owners, developers, and general contractors.
- Cultivate and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients and trade partners through personal attention and collaborative communication, reflecting Engelke’s “Building Great Things with Great People” philosophy.
- Support leadership in developing strategic pricing, budgetary estimates, and win strategies for pursuits and negotiated work.
- Engage with clients, architects, subcontractors, and suppliers to clarify scope, negotiate pricing, and align expectations.
- Prepare and issue clear scopes of work, bid clarifications, and proposal narratives that reflect integrity and transparency in every interaction.
- Partner with internal teams to ensure a seamless handoff from preconstruction to operations.
- Act as a liaison between estimating and operations to identify value-add propositions that improve project outcomes and support repeat business.
- Use cost knowledge, market insights, and client feedback to inform pursuit strategies and support Engelke’s commitment to clients and communities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement in preconstruction processes, tools, and best practices.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred; equivalent field experience considered.
- Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and scheduling; proficiency in reading blueprints and using estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, etc.).
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills; relationship- and sales-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail and strategic thinking.
- Experience: Proven experience in construction estimating with demonstrated success in client relations, business development, or sales within a general contractor or specialty subcontractor environment.
