About Us

Engelhart was founded in 2013 by BTG Pactual Group as a commodities trading company. Our business model is “asset light” and highly diversified – giving us the ability to adapt effectively and nimbly to changing market conditions. We have assembled successful multidisciplinary teams, leveraging advanced fundamental analysis with deep quantitative and weather research capabilities.  Our activities are underpinned by strong risk management practices and by powerful technology and operational excellence. We have exceptional teams with diverse global backgrounds and decades of experience, and are driven by a highly collaborative culture, across products and competencies.

In 2024, Engelhart acquired Trailstone, a global energy trading and technology company. The acquisition provides us with new expertise, analytics and proprietary technology which is being used to provide risk management and optimisation services to help maximise the value of our clients’ renewable power. The acquisition also expanded Engelhart’s capabilities into physical natural gas across North America, a critical fuel to support the energy transition.

Our talented and experienced individuals work together according to its four company values: Performance, Agility, Collaboration, Entrepreneurship.

About the Role

This is a new opportunity to join our Global Middle Office team as an analyst, based in Houston. This analyst will support the P&L analysis team by maintaining the data foundation used for portfolio analytics and reporting, while also providing valuation support for complex OTC and structured energy transactions. This role offers direct exposure to the trading desks, risk department, IT and other internal stakeholders.

This will be a full-time role, owning the following responsibilities:

  • Maintaining and organizing pricing data used in portfolio valuation and P&L analysis, including consolidating forward curves, market publications and internal price sources to ensure consistent and reliable inputs across the team.
  • Developing processes to regularly capture and update market price data used in valuation and reporting, while implementing check and alert to monitor data quality.
  • Supporting option valuation by reviewing model inputs, forward curves, and volatility assumptions, and developing P&L attribution frameworks to explain option portfolio movement across key risk factors such as delta, gamma, vega and theta.
  • Supporting the preparation of pricing and analytical frameworks for new OTC transactions (such as PPAs, batter agreements, and other non-standard products). This will also include building required pricing inputs and performing independent valuation review and P&L analysis once transactions are onboarded.
  • Working with existing tools and technology resources across the organization to improve how pricing and market data is captured, structured and maintained, to support valuation and P&L analytics.
  • Contributing to documentation, workflow standardization and model transparency to ensure repeatability and scalability as the business grows.

About You

We believe the following background and skills will best set someone up for success in this position:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in energy trading, quantitative analytics, derivatives valuation, or structuring within power and gas markets.
  • Demonstrable understanding of option pricing and risk sensitivities, including Greeks and valuation of complex option products.
  • Experience supporting trading or P&L teams with valuation models and quantitative analysis.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and SQL.
  • Experienced with managing databases and implementing monitoring or alert systems to ensure data integrity.
  • Knowledge of power and natural gas markets and familiarity with forward curve and optionality in energy portfolios.
  • Self-driven, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability and desire to build relationships across functional teams.

In addition, the following are not essential though highly desirable:

  • Experience building automated workflows and maintaining data pipelines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (mathematics, engineering, finance, or computer science).

What we offer

  • Competitive compensation and participation in Engelhart’s discretionary bonus plan.
  • 20 days of annual holiday entitlement, excluding US public holidays.
  • Robust benefits packages such as Medical, Dental, Vision, Life insurance, 401(k) match, and supplemental benefits partially subsidized by the Company.
  • Eligibility to receive external and internal training in accordance with our Training & Development Policy.
