Job Summary
Engauge Workforce Solutions is seeking a hands-on Electromechanical Design Engineer to support a client in Midland, MI. This role focuses on the design, development, testing, and troubleshooting of electronic and mechanical systems for research and development projects. The position involves working with multiple product lines, small prototypes, and a mix of desk and lab/floor work. The ideal candidate thrives in a trial-and-error environment, enjoys problem-solving, and is comfortable working on projects that may not yield immediate success.
The role collaborates with two mechanical engineers, two other engineers, a chemist, and an electrical support specialist, and will work closely with the engineering manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and test analog and digital circuits for new products and systems, ensuring compliance with CE, UL, TUV, and other relevant EMC/electrical safety specifications.
- Create mechanical and electrical drawings using AutoCAD or similar software; apply GD&T principles.
- Build and test prototypes, troubleshoot issues, and iteratively improve product designs.
- Perform hands-on assembly, wiring, soldering, and ESD-safe handling of components and small equipment.
- Conduct research and development to improve existing products or develop new solutions.
- Apply project management principles to coordinate timelines, resources, and budgets across multiple product lines.
- Ensure proper electrical layout, grounding, and circuit efficiency, including awareness of ground loops.
- Maintain clear documentation, version control, and engineering change control for all projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical engineers, chemists, electrical specialists, and technicians.
- Support testing, validation, and compliance activities to meet industry standards.
- Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders, including addressing challenges associated with team dynamics or organizational change.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electromechanical Engineering required.
Experience:
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience in electromechanical design, R&D, or related field.
- Experience with analog and digital circuit design, multilayer PCBs, and electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions.
- AutoCAD proficiency; mechanical drawing experience required.
- GD&T knowledge and experience with multiple product lines.
- Project management experience, including coordinating resources and timelines.
- Experience with e-prom programming, version control, and engineering change control.
- Familiarity with IEEE standards and EMC/electrical safety specifications.
- Experience with mechanical assembly, troubleshooting, and prototyping in an R&D environment.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- On-site at the client location in Midland, MI; 50% desk and 50% lab/floor work.
- Cubicle/office environment with lab access.

- Flexible schedule may be required to meet project deadlines.
- Occasional travel (up to 5%) may be required; valid driver’s license and reliable transportation necessary.
