ENG Bauen is supporting a leading chemical manufacturer in the Houston Ship Channel with the appointment of a Senior Automation & Process Control Engineer to join their plant-based engineering team.
This position sits within a live operating facility and plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and continuous improvement of process control systems across the site. The opportunity offers direct exposure to plant leadership and the ability to influence automation strategy within a high-value industrial asset.
Role Overview
The Senior Automation & Process Control Engineer will be embedded within the plant engineering function, supporting day-to-day operations while driving optimisation and system improvements across DCS, PLC, and control systems.
This is a hands-on role, working closely with operations, maintenance, and technical teams to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable plant performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and optimise plant-wide DCS, PLC, and process control systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve control system and instrumentation issues impacting operations
- Support modifications, upgrades, and integration of new equipment into existing systems
- Work closely with operations and maintenance teams to improve plant reliability and performance
- Develop and refine control strategies to enhance process efficiency and stability
- Ensure compliance with site standards, safety systems, and engineering best practices
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across automation and process control
Candidate Profile
- Proven experience in process control and automation within chemical, refining, or industrial manufacturing environments
- Strong working knowledge of DCS and PLC systems (Emerson, Honeywell, ABB or similar)
- Experience operating within live plant environments, supporting day-to-day operations
- Ability to troubleshoot complex control system issues and implement effective solutions
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally across plant teams
- Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline
