What are the responsibilities and job description for the After-School Counselor position at Enfield School Age Program?
Enfield School Age Program (ESAP) is seeking compassionate and energetic candidates for the 2026-2027 academic year! ESAP is a semi-structured after school program that offers a variety of developmentally appropriate activities, projects, and daily Homework Club. ESAP provides quality childcare for approximately 30 children enrolled in grades K-5. Our program operates from 1:55-5:30PM Monday-Friday. While direct programming is limited to the ICSD academic calendar, there may be additional days that the program operates a full or half day during school breaks and closures.
If you have specialty interest in activities such as STEM, cultural enrichment, music, games, arts & crafts, and are devoted to nurturing youth then this is the position for you! Primary duties include working with other staff to facilitate activities, ensuring student and staff health and safety, engaging with student needs and interests, and building strong relationships with the school community.
Job Title: Program Counselor
Wage: Starting $17.00/hour, subject to commensurate with experience
Schedule: Two or more weekdays, 2:00pm-5:45PM, possibility to work full program days and sub as needed
Paid Time Off: Accrued sick leave, federal holidays, school closures
Qualifications:
· Previous relevant experience and/or employment (childcare program preferred).
· Positivity, patience, and robust communication skills are necessary.
· Need to demonstrate maturity, an energetic persona, and be enthusiastic about early child development.
· Maintain optimal physical and mental health, with the energy and emotional stability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
· Must be able to pass an Office of Family and Children’s Services (OCFS) comprehensive background check, health physical, and TB test (paid for by ESAP).
· Training: current Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or willingness to complete upon hire. 5-hour e-learning course "Foundations in Health and Safety" or 15 hour classroom training "Health and Safety Training: Competencies in Child Care for Day Care Center and School-Age Child Care Program Staff.", required within 3 months of hire. Total of 15 hours of OCFS training required within the first 6 months of hire (all training paid for by ESAP)
