Summary - Basic Function Of The Role

The Biomedical Team Leader plays a key role in achieving plant performance goals by supporting daily production operations, resolving obstacles, and ensuring efficient, compliant manufacturing of biomedical textiles. This position serves as both a hands-on leader and a subject matter expert (SME) in high- and low-density braiding, ensuring the team meets safety, quality, and delivery targets.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift



Location: In-office Monday - Friday

Salary Range: $29.72/hr. - $44.58/hr.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Act in a safe manner in all activities performed and promote the Safety Program in all processes and procedures.
  • Ensures all quality standards and requirements are met in operation of manufacturing equipment, inspection and packaging tasks.
  • Lead, coach, and support a team of biomedical operators to meet daily production goals.
  • Adhere strictly to all applicable procedures, work instructions and forms while performing all tasks.
  • Act as the first point of contact for resolving on-the-floor issues, including material, equipment, or process challenges.
  • Complete all tasks efficiently and correctly as assigned by supervisory and planning personnel.
  • Monitor daily production schedules and prioritize tasks to meet output and quality targets.
  • Train and mentor operators on braiding machine setup, operation, and maintenance best practices.
  • Partner with supervision, quality, and engineering to drive production efficiency and product quality.
  • Follow instructions and manages multiple tasks to meet production deadlines and customer satisfaction.
  • Report any deficiencies in material, product, or process immediately per current procedures.
  • Support other manufacturing areas, shifts, and overtime hours as needed to support customer delivery expectations.
  • Complete all inventory and packaging entries as required ensuring that the information is correct and accurate.
  • Conduct 5S, operator maintenance and housekeeping activities as assigned.
  • Understand and apply the Quality Policy, quality documentation, and company objectives to all tasks assigned.
  • Act in a courteous and professional manner at all times, within a team environment, ensuring sustainment of Cortland Company’s reputation as a world class supplier.

  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to critically assess and work through equipment and manufacturing issues.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills including detailed documentation as is required for ISO13485 medical standard for medical devices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other functions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight timelines.
  • Ability to effectively train others.

Education And Experience

  • Technical/Trade school degree preferred, experience will be considered in lieu of education.
  • 5 years Manufacturing, assembly, maintenance or production experience preferred.
  • 3-5 years prior team lead or shift lead experience preferred.

Physical Demands

Employee may have to lift documents/work materials up to 50 pounds in weight. Employee will have to be able to walk/climb to a variety of primary work locations, this can include occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like. Employee may move themselves in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces. Employee will need to move about to accomplish tasks or move from one worksite to another. Employee will need to operate machinery and/or power tools, motor vehicles, and heavy equipment. Employee will need to listen, understand, and speak with team members in person, telephonically, and electronically at all levels within a diverse workforce and with supported organizations. Employee will need to assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned. Employee will remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods. Employee will use repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and /or fingers. This will also include eye focus and fine finger dexterity required for threading high counts and small sizes of yarn into machines.

Work Environment

The primary work environment is in a controlled office space with temperature control. Long periods of sitting or computer work may be required. Secondary work environments may include areas that require additional PPE including, but not limited to eye, ear, foot and hand protection as well as specific gowning.
