The Role
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Analytical Chemist to support R&D and plant operations, performing high-quality analyses and contributing to the overall success of our laboratory team. Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with R&D scientists and plant operators to provide analytical chemistry support for experimental design and process optimization.
- Perform timely analysis of samples using analytical techniques that include ICP-OES, ICP-MS, flame atomic absorption spectroscopy (FAAS), total organic carbon (TOC) analysis, benchtop NMR spectroscopy, automated titration systems, and other analytical techniques as required.
- Work with the manager/director to develop and validate new analytical methods R&D projects.
- Prepare and maintain calibration standard solutions for calibration curves and QC checks.
- Structure analytical batches with proper quality control checks to ensure data integrity.
- Analyze and review data carefully and provide analytical reports in a timely manner to the appropriate internal departments.
- Adhere to established standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all testing processes.
- Write and revise SOPs for new analytical methods.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment/instrumentation as required.
- Place order requests for chemicals and supplies necessary for instrument operation and sample analysis.
- Manage multiple tasks efficiently to meet tight deadlines.
- Promote and maintain a strong culture of safety in the laboratory.
- Ensure a clean, organized, and well-maintained laboratory workspace.
Required Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in analytical chemistry, chemistry, or related field, and at least two years of experience in an analytical chemistry setting. Master’s degree preferred.
- Strong understanding of:
- Serial dilutions and preparation of calibration curves
- Sample dilutions, limits of detection, and limits of quantitation
- Accuracy vs. precision
- Familiarity with basic statistical concepts in analytical chemistry, including coefficient of determination, relative standard deviation, percent error, and percent recovery.
- Proficiency with spreadsheet tools such as Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel.
- Proven ability to prioritize and stay organized in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and efficiently.
- Strong inclination toward process optimization and improvement.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with analysis of metals in solution using instrumental techniques such as ICP, FAAS, NMR, or similar instrumentation.
- Experience with coding and automation (e.g., using Excel functions, Python, Google Apps Script) is a plus.
