Job Summary
We are seeking a qualified NYSERDA Climate Justice Fellow to join us in opening access to clean energy career pathways for disadvantaged communities. The fellow will focus their efforts specifically on high school and middle school students in NYC via school and community center programs. Additionally, the fellow will be building community partnerships to foster future program expansion. The position includes extensive training and mentoring experiences and is an opportunity to build professional networks while gaining valuable skills and perspectives on the clean energy economy.
Position Responsibilities:
- Deliver a STEM-based, workforce development (WFD) program that empowers students to assume roles as energy managers for their school buildings. Train students using existing materials, on the use of professional auditing equipment, lead students as they conduct energy audits, and teach about energy-saving technologies and practices.
- Support school green teams by providing facilitation, scheduling, and resource assistance. Support student outreach to promote adoption of conservation behaviors.
- Plan and coordinate career immersion experiences with local professional organizations working in the clean energy space.
- Plan and coordinate professionals to provide expert presentations on their work to students.
- Facilitate employment and internship opportunities available through Energy Training Solutions.
- Coordinate with clean energy workforce development partners to enroll students in their programming. Integrate Partner WFD offerings into the program.
- Track sustainability initiative progress by entering and analyzing energy, waste, and water data.
- Administer and summarize pre and post-program surveys that determine level of participant awareness of and interest in green economy careers.
- Attend additional meetings with community stakeholders and clients as necessary to facilitate program expansion.
- Identify community partners for collaboration.
- Maintain and build strategic partnerships with local organizations.
- Provide written reports on program meetings and progress.
Qualifications/skills
- Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with youth in an educational setting. Teaching experience preferred.
- Positive and professional attitude; strong work ethic.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing. Professional writing experience a plus. Marketing experience a plus.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment concerning budget expenditures; funder, community and political relationships; partnership arrangements with local organizations.
- Demonstrated analytic, conceptual, planning and implementation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small organization environment.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Google Suite. Experience with desktop publishing programs a plus.
