What are the responsibilities and job description for the Generator Sales position at Energy Solutions?
Generator & Generator Service Sales ConsultantOverview
Join our team as a Generator & Generator Service Sales Consultant and become the driving force behind our Generator Division's growth! In this energetic, field-based role, you'll help homeowners and businesses protect what matters most — reliable backup power — while also building long-term recurring revenue through generator maintenance and service agreements. You'll meet with homeowners to assess backup power needs and recommend the right standby generator system, and you'll scope and price larger commercial and industrial standby power projects for businesses, facilities, and contractors. Your consultative approach, technical curiosity, and closing instincts will help customers feel confident in their investment while ensuring every sale is priced accurately and profitably. This role offers real variety — no two days look the same — plus the chance to grow within a company that's expanding its Generator Division and building lasting customer relationships one job at a time.
Responsibilities
- Conduct in-home consultations with residential customers to assess backup power needs, evaluate electrical service, and recommend the right standby generator size and fuel type (natural gas, propane, or diesel).
- Develop accurate, competitive proposals for commercial and industrial generator installations by evaluating site conditions, load requirements, permitting needs, equipment, and labor costs.
- Sell generator maintenance and service agreements to new and existing customers, building a base of recurring service revenue for the division.
- Present clear, professional quotes covering equipment, installation, transfer switches, financing options, and warranty coverage, and confidently close the sale.
- Collaborate with electricians, installers, and the Generator Division team to make sure every quoted scope is realistic and buildable.
- Manage a sales pipeline in the CRM — track leads, follow up promptly, and keep quotes and job status current.
- Build relationships with generator manufacturers and distributors to stay current on product lines, pricing, and availability.
- Represent the company at home shows, trade events, and community events to generate new residential and commercial leads.
- Coordinate with scheduling and operations to hand off sold jobs cleanly, and follow up after installation to ensure customer satisfaction and open the door to service agreement renewals.
Requirements
- Proven sales experience, ideally in generators, HVAC, electrical, or another home/commercial services field — generator industry experience (e.g., Generac, Kohler, Cummins) is a plus but not required.
- Working understanding of standby generator systems, transfer switches, and fuel types, or the ability to learn quickly on the job.
- Comfortable moving between two different sales motions: consultative, in-home residential selling and estimate-driven commercial/industrial proposals.
- Strong negotiation and closing skills, with a track record of hitting sales targets.
- Organized and self-motivated, with solid CRM habits for pipeline and follow-up management.
- Excellent communication skills, able to build trust quickly with homeowners, facility managers, and contractors alike.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel locally for in-home consultations and job site visits.
Join us and be part of a growing Generator Division where your ability to connect with customers — and close the deal — directly fuels the business's growth, backed by a team that values precision, follow-through, and long-term customer relationships.
